First up was mighty Max Schuemann, last week's starting Yankee LF. Next came J.C. Escarra, formerly half of the game's worst offensive catching duo. Batting cleanup was fan-fave Oswaldo Cabrera, still proving himself healed from last year's broken leg.
Filling in the blanks were jugglers, janitors and journeymen well into their journeys. They included:
Marco Luciano, 24, a former Giant, now in his third year of Triple A.
Yanquiel Fernandez, 23, who bombed last year with the Rockies.
Ernesto Martinez, 27-an ex-Brewer.
Kenedy Corona, 26, formerly of the Astros.
Duke Ellis, 28, of several teams, who did NOT once throw a no-hitter while on acid.
And Tyler Hardman, the lone player still on an upward trajectory. Unfortunately, it's a slow incline. He is 27.
This weekend, their sense of universal betrayal could be bolstered by the arrival of Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez, two of the most hyped Yankee prospects in this millennium. Both will show up in the middle of fully engulfed, flaming career crises. When the Railriders gather to talk about the price of tomatoes, they will also instigate a fiery convention of failed opportunity and challenged hope. If manager Sandy Shelley Duncan can keep this team afloat, he deserves to be the next Yankee manager, around 2040, when the A.I. Aaron Boone retires.
I'd love to say that hope will win, that the Railriders will find an identity, and that these sad human beings can return to Gotham and salvage their careers. Volpe was a huge disappointment, but he always seemed a nice fellow. Ditto The Martian, who could never live up to the expectations of his original signing bonus. We've probably seen the last of both, at least in pinstripes. Their Yankee careers will end in Scranton, aka Purgatory.
Let's wish them the best and hope George Lombard Jr. understands how fleeting greatness can be.

As they said on the Titanic, hope is not a strategy.
But it is standard operating procedure for the imbeciles in the Yankees' front office.
"rail rider" is such a terrible name for a ball team, especially one populated by dudes who don't want to be riding the rails between NYC and Scranton. With SO MANY other good names, do we really need this bullshit? It is indicative of the Yankees' deepest spiritual malaise - aside from greed - which is a lack of imagination. Speaking of the minor leagues, I'm thinking of going to another Brooklyn/Coney Island Cyclones game this year if anyone is interested. Probably the first week of September. Last year, it was a lot of fun and cheap. Plus, we ate at Nathans. What's not to like? The fecal fries at Nathans far surpass the Yankee Stadium fecal fries. And the franks and fried fish sandwiches were superlative. I don't do frogs legs, but they've got them if you swing that way.
So let us feel hope
And feel the sunrise in our minds
To give hope is to enlighten all mankind
Ah, but lose hope, and life seems black as blind
When faith gives way to fear
When motivation disappears
All is lost if one abandons hope
All is lost if one abandons hope
(Sigh not behind Shelly Duncan’s desk)
Lose your dreams and you
Will lose your mind
And life unkind
Jasson Dominguez is a major leaguer. This year, batting right handed against lefty pitching: .279 batting average with .744 OPS. As I said, on the current Yankees, that's almost Joe DiMaggio level.
Most ball clubs would not have sent him down. They would have developed him properly. At worst, this year, he'd be a platoon player until they figured out why he was struggling from the left side against righty pitching. Here on the Yankees, we have too many great players, too many Hall of Famers, too many Championshp caliber players to carry Jasson Dominguez.
Which bringeth us to the failure of this organization's management and coaching. Do you see any other ball club where players don't even know how to slide, run the bases like drunks, and swing the bats like they're blind? Maybe the worst teams in baseball, right? And so what does that say about the current Yankee management?
Now that the team has been roasted by both fans and media over its trade deadline failure it’s strange how suddenly the new injury updates are coming. After weeks of radio silence, the team is now hyping the returns of Judge, Stanton, Bellinger, Rodon, and even Clarke Schmidt. It’s the usual palaver about how the players returning are better than anything available on the trade market. Left unsaid is the undeniable fact that every single player ( well, not Schmidt) was having a sub-par year BEFORE they were injured (especially Judge) so what’s the rationale for anticipating they will re-emerge as the best versions of themselves? I foresee an even more clogged, unbalanced roster and a continuation of wretched boone ball play, highlighted by double digit strikeout games and astonishing RISP failures. Still, the final wild card spot beckons us onward, and will provide just enough cover for boone and cashman to return and run it all back One More Time for next year’s abbreviated season.
Well said, Rufus!
The intern can't wiggle out of the fact that the carmines got a catcher that can hit and he failed.
Unless there's some double secret catcher they have stashed in the minors (that we've never heard about and isn't even on the roster.)
A term we don't hear often enough about the intern is 💩 for 🧠ðŸ§
Ah, Nathan's! I remember when they used to offer chow mein on a bun—true story!
I would love to join you, Bitty, but too much work. And awfully far on the subway for me. Enjoy the game.
Love the typo in this, AA! "Please do not sigh behind Mr. Duncan's desk. Thank you."
Love how the shit emoji is always smiling...
All too true, 999. "See? I was right to hold on!" Brian Cashman could've taught propaganda to Stalin.
Image if we could have had a guy like Caleb Durbin to go along Lombard for the next 10 years
Duque, I watched last night's Railriders aka Baby Bomber game and it is sad. Five hits. Low batting averages and severfal K's in the game. This is why Genius Cashman could not make a big trade. There is nothing to trade and he would not include Lombard Jr.
13 and Hoss - When my Mom was pregnant with me her pre-natal craving was Nathan's Hot Dogs. She lived one subway stop away so every day she would go to Coney Island and chow down.
Funny story - I got acute appendicitis and a burst appendix at five years old. I always wondered if the hot dogs were the cause.
That said, I still eat them although I am partial to Boars Head because it's a true snap dog.
What is a "snap dog"?
