As everyone knows, I hated the trade of Austin Jackson.
Time and time again, it has served the Yankees well to keep ( as in; "hold on to" ) their top prospects who are :
1. young
2. acknowledged to have
5 tools ( even 4 )
3. performing "above level " for their minor league status ( MVP of AAA division in which one plays is an example )
4. hitting close to .300 in first AAA season
5. Playing in "futures" game, year after year as one of the youngest
If Brian Cashman were only old enough to recall that the Yankee "core" for numerous championship seasons was; Derek; Andy; Mo; Bernie and Jorge. Largely, that group remains the core today, and was the core for our 27th!!
And their common denominator? Come on Brian, take a stab at this brain twister....
How could we do this?
Instead of AJ ( hitting .347 in full time duty ) in centerfield , we have some gimpy guy who has outlived and outworn his skills. A guy that will not hit well, should only play against right handed pitchers and is out now until the all star break. At which time, he will return with "spring training" level skills.
Basically, this deal is a monstrous failure. We got a left-handed hitting Ken Phellps for Jay Buhner. Again.
If it were not for two other players who came up as Yankees ( Hughes
and Brett ), this team would not be competing for anything this year.
Why does stupidity repeat itself ?

and it's a good thing we don't have those limited losers, damon and matsui, around anymore. boy, they just handcuff the manager with their lack of skills. good thing we got a couple of old, over the hill guys like nicky 'mr. obp' johnson to fill the gap.
my advice is, do not go on an lsd bender during the off-season. it never turns out well.

AJ actually really is terrible
he strikes out in 33% of his at bats!!! but hits no homeruns, which is pretty much what you have to do to pull off striking out like that.
also his BABIP is over .500
average is around .300...
that WILL regress, and he will fall apart.
Alphonso, get off that ledge! We have to "let go" of our former Yankees. Damon had a walk-off the other day and, yes, it made me want him back - for a second. But you cannot diss Granderson! He'll make you proud one day. And Gardner? Pfff. He's the bomb.

Well, at least getting rid of Melky is looking pretty smart, if you don't consider what they got for him.
Don't let AJ's batting average fool you. He's leading the world in strikeouts and has no power. Plus the season is a month old. If he wins a batting title maybe then we can talk.
With that said, Granderson MUST be platooned and MUST be pinch-hit for against lefties. Once he comes off the DL, that is.
