Dare We Think It? This looks like a Yankee year!

Alexa, write this down...

Holy crap. I'm gonna get into trouble for this. It runs contrary to every rule of negative juju. But dammitol, Alexis, at this blog, we are first and foremost  truth-tellers! You hear me, dealers in hard reality! If we see an iceberg, we yell "ICEBERG." If we see a kraken, we yell "WHAT THE FUH IS THAT?" We cannot deny what our eyes see, what our ears hear, and what our livers secrete:

Dammitol, this looks like a Yankee year!

Yeah, I'm saying it: 2019 World Champs! How else do we read these ridiculous tea leaves?

We lose our Didi until July, then Tulo until forever, and - poof - Gleyber just steps in as SS with LeMahieu at 2B. We lose Giancarlo, then Hicks, and - poof  -Frazier steps in. We lose Frazier and Judge, and so - poof - Mike Tauchman hits critical home runs and Camerin Maybin bats .340. We lose Andujar, and - poof - Urshela appears. We lose Severino, and - poof - here comes German.

Dammitol, we're a half game out of first. How are we supposed to cling to our precious pessimism, when a team comes together like the 2019 Yankees? We have won 15 of 20. Fifteen out of twenty.

I know, I know... I shouldn't be writing this. No good ever comes from optimism. But last night, John Sterling couldn't help himself. After birthing an incredible winwarble - it seemed to last a 60 seconds - The Master called these Yankees an "amazing" team. He sounded 20 years younger (still retirement age.) On the sidelines, Suzyn grabbed LeMahieu (YES always gets the big star; Suzyn gets the scraps) and asked if he has ever been involved with such an incredible thing as this Yankee club? And no, of course, he hasn't! There has never been such a thing like this amazing Yankee club!

Dammitoltohell, this looks like a Yankee year. I think we're gonna win the world fukkin series! Alexa, where's the bottle opener? GAHHHHHHHHHH-(end of message)

DING. HOW  CAN I HELP YOU?

Alexa, when will Stanton come back? How many RISP will he rack up when he does?

Alexa, will German figure out how to get through the lineup the second and third time's around?

Alexa, when are we getting a good pitching coach?

Thanks, babe.

@JM...a new statistic should be made just for Stanton...NORK (Number of Rallies Killed). I'm sure he would lead the majors in that category.

I had a serious illness a while ago. The docs prescribed Dammitol.

Didn't work.

Bad idea, Duque. Bad idea.

You just know that if the returning (eventually) stars were up at bat instead of Gio-Stanton, Hicks, Didi or even Judge-no ball contact would be made and we would lose last night's game.
Therein lies the dilemma that awaits starting Monday. Sure, Hicks for Tauchman is a no-brainer but after that......

JFB.....your doctor is living in the twentieth century. Dammitol has been replaced by a much stronger medication called Fuckitol. And no side effects like crapping in your pants, paralysis or stroke.

We are always tested with an inspiring run early in the season. Let's see what happens when the highly-paid stars return. This is not Cashman's team. This is Cashman's desperation backup plan. Let's see how his team performs when they return.

PS: I love these guys. I just don't expect to see them on the field in another month or so.

What will happen when Tulo is healthy? Signing him for almost nothing made sense. However, the team has better options now, even with Didi on the IL

STANTON.

CAN WE "ELLSBURY" HIM?

Duque, I know what you mean!

Have you ever noticed how many championship seasons seem to involve injured guys coming back, or people stepping up? In 2009, A-Rod missed a bunch of time starting off, as I recall. In 1998, we lost Strawberry just as he was on an incredible tear—and got Shane Spencer. Look at the length of the DL in 1978.

Is having a bunch of injuries some kind of good luck talisman, then?

NO! If I may defy the JuJu gods and Dr. Obogdan for a moment...it's SCIENCE!

Overcoming injuries usually implies the sort of DEPTH a championship team needs.

Sure, German seems more like a long reliever than an effective starter. But hey, IF—and I know it's a big IF, and not just because I write it in caps—IF Sevvy DOES come back then, boom, we have another effective reliever. Or maybe Toonces returns, or Green gets his act together...

Same thing with the position players. IF we get Judge back and Clint steps up, and Didi returns...then we have depth up the wazoo.

Tulo will likely be released. Stanton will be a pain. But...

There IS reason for (extremely) cautious optimism!

All this positivity is depressing.
