Circle the Date

Warning: Fun times ahead.

As noted in this space a few weeks ago, we are planning the second IIHIIFIIc outing to Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.

The game is at 1:05pm on August 24, 2023 against the Washington Nationals.

We will be sitting in the upper deck on the first base side, underneath the overhang so we'll be sheltered from both the sun and any inclement weather.  Wizened planners are we.

The price for all this fun is $30.00 per ticket inclusive of all taxes, fees, etc.  Only $30.  Don't even think about it; just grab your mouse and sign yourself up.

To join in and meet some of your fellow readers/contributors, send an email to:

motelsign(at)protonmail(dot)com  -- OR -- localbargainjerk(at)gmail(dot)com

Once we get your email, we'll send you the Paypal or Venmo info needed to pay for the tickets.  We'll also put you on the IIFIIHIIc logistics email mailing list.  As noted in a previous post, we'll be meeting at the same world-class watering hole as last time after which we will triumphantly march up River Avenue.

We're going to have to pull the trigger for the tickets on Monday so please order now.

I'm sorry, if that's confusing.  What I meant was that you should order now.

Order now.

There are now 17 confirmed attendees. If we get a few more, we can pull a heist after the game.

TBH, once the game reaches extra innings it’s as good as lost.
Another sloppy game Wright no offense,
Stanton down to a buck eighty-four.
Volpe has got to go down. NOW.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Despite all the Volpe hype, he is still another in a long line of clueless Yankees hitters since Cashman took over. By that, I mean that he has no clue as to how the pitcher is attempting to get him out. Which means he can't adapt. He always chases the high fastball and refuses to be selective with breaking balls outside the strike zone. After 200 AB he should have learned. And please, no more comparing him to a young Jeter as the YES announcers constantly do! Even in the brief cup of coffee Jeter had in '95 when he only had 48 AB, he hit.250. The next year, his first full season, he hit .314. So, there is no valid comparison. If Volpe stays, his first full season will likely not be much over.200, if that. He should go down to AAA and learn to hit.

The end of DAYz

MJ said...

CJW: Is it that Volpe can't adapt, or has he been ordered not to adapt? I assume he's been ordered to stop stealing every base he can. Why else would a perfect SB rate be throttled like this? I'm not sure his troubles are totally his fault.

This will come as a shock to most but…I don’t really like Boone that
much as a manager.

These are our tragically bad 2023 New York Yankees.

Volpe's inability to hit at the MLB level is Volpe's fault. He is not a good hitter. He has never hit well at any professional level above A ball. Spring training is not a reliable barometer of anything, as an evidence-based front office would know. But this is a hype-based front office that was looking for the Great White Hope (half Filipino passes muster with the gated- community mafia.)

Not arguing that he's good. Just wondering if it's all his fault. Are we sure the Yankees don't get these guys swinging with uppercuts in the higher minors? Have they intentionally shut his running game down? Not disagreeing. Just asking questions.

MJ: There are plenty of good hitters in the Yankee farm system. You saw one one them tonight . . . playing for Texas: Ezequiel Duran, who went 2 for 4 and is batting .314, much higher than anyone in the current Yankee starting eight with a significant sample size. He was squandered in the imbecilic Gallo trade. Peraza is a much better hitter and fielder than Volpe but was passed over in favor of someone less capable and accomplished but also less similar to the kinds of guys who do Cashman's and Steinbrenner's landscaping. Florial is killing it in AAA, but isn't deemed marketable by the team's racist hierarchy. Volpe stunk in both AA and AAA but he got the promotion and the hype. You do the math.

MJ said...

EBD: I agree with everything you say here. I've kept an eye on Duran; people (including me) tend to focus on the young pitching NYY have given up the last couple years but it's way worse than that. I get what you mean by "doing the math" too. I suspect there's a Bobblehead giveaway for AV long ago decided, unless I've missed it and there's been one already. Peraza and Florial can go pound sand, it seems. This team's management, whether it's due to racism or sheer idiocy, is not to be respected at all. Not accusing them of anything; just saying racism could seem to explain some of their actions and non-actions. I'm certainly with you on the possibility.

HoraceClarke66 said...

MJ, I agree on the stealing part of Volpe's game. Why the hell would you possibly stifle the one thing the kid is doing very well? But obviously, they have. DESPERATELY in need of runs...they still don't want anyone running.

The Yankees almost seem psychotic to me at this point. In the 10th inning, Boone actually pinch-hit for Billy McKinney, the hottest hitter on the team, because it would have been a lefty-on-lefty match-up. He sent up Jackie Donaldson, who was 0-13, and batting .127. He struck out. What a shocker.

The Archangel said...

Bochy must have walked down the tunnel so that he could burst out laughing without being seen on camera.

The Archangel said...

HC66,
You are wrong my friend, They did not PH for McKinney, he was benched for advancing on a fly ball to deep left center.
That's just not The Yankee Way.

BTR999 said...

Boone is a terrible manager, don’t be influenced by paid shills like Kay. You gonna believe him or your own eyes?

Carl J. Weitz said...

There are so many times in extra innings, with first base open, that Boone pitches to the opponent's hottest batter or best hitter. Every other manager would walk the guy with the ghost runner on second base with any number of outs. He really is the worst Yankees manager in my lifetime.

I noticed Duran has facial art. Probably a Yankee disqualifier.
