Comes word that Aaron Judge is now suffering from a sprained ligament in one or another of his toes, and may or may not be back in time for the All-Star Game, several weeks hence.
In my ignorance, I had no idea that one could sprain a ligament. Perhaps next he will fracture a gene, or pull a blood cell, or maybe tear a body cavity.
Rumor has it that there is an entire department at Yale's medical school now devoted to annotating and cataloguing the injuries that the Yankees manage to come up with.
What seems obvious, though, is that it's absurd for us to have gone about following the Yankees as if they are a traditional, major-league team:
Pondering the lineups, debating the new statistics. Assessing whether this player or that should be released, or called up from the minor leagues. Parsing the cryptic statements of the manager, or the opaque strategies of the front office.
The trouble is that these Yankees are nothing like a traditional major-league ball club.
They are more like the Olde Towne Team, some group of mature men who gather, when they can, at the ballpark down by the train yard, to play for their friends and families. Sometimes they perform marvelous feats, and sometimes they seem preoccupied by weightier concerns. But under no circumstances are they to be taken seriously.

Maybe the New York Yankees can come play against the local beer belly league team. I'm not sure who I'll be rooting for.
I'd heard Ma Yankee give a report of rain in Boston all day Saturday until Sunday. Are they playing tonight? Might be an advantage for the Yankees if they have to play a doubleheader on Sunday. They might actually win a game.
Rain all day, but supposed to be very light this evening.
I have a friend from NZ visiting tomorrow. He is spending a couple of days in Boston being a tourist. Wanted to see an American cricket game, so he went to see it. Glad I didn't join him. Still have my perfect record of Yankees winning every carmines' game I have seen them play in person -- starting in October 1978.
Maybe the Yankees should just forfeit the rest of their games this year, and they all get to go home and count their money. It would be less painful than watching them play.
What a mess this organization has become. Complacent. Apathetic.
The Yankees are a team headed for irrelevance, and we as fans can only stand by and watch as the ship sinks below 500.
Every day I read the box scores (but not last night's) and come faithfully to IIH to hear the wailing and moaning; part of my heart is filled with sorrow as I witness this worthless and inept management team turn the Yankees - THE FUCKING NEW YORK YANKEES FOR FUCK'S SAKE into something resembling the Miami Marlins or the Anaheim Angels. Mediocrity and heading south.
And now I'm praying. Every day. For these placeholders who more and more resemble Mike Burke's Yankees, to go away, to shrivel up, to melt into nothingness, to give way to someone who has some pride in pinstripes.
Give me 500 for the season. Hell, give me sub-500 and a place on the living room couch watching someone else's team in a play-in game.
What makes management (I can't even utter their names anymore) so apathetic is the profit that comes from a winning team - a championship-caliber team - year after year.
What this franchise needs is a good old-fashioned losing season and the kind of empty stadium usually reserved for Tiger's games in September.
I want them gone. I want a losing season. That is what I'm rooting for: empty seats, uneaten Yankees franks, plummeting YES ratings. The whole rotting corpse of a team that can't compete and I want the baseball gods to hear my prayers: kill this team and send the management team to Hades.
Question: Why is Rizzo trying to cover most of the right side of the infield - leaving first base open?
Answer: He's still dealing with the after affects of his concussion.
No shot in his piggy wiggles will cure that.
@ AA, The first thought I had was that Rizzo is trying to cover for Torres. But you can only do what you can do. Can't cover for anyone else.
@ DickAllen, To go to Hades, you have to pay Charon, the ferryman. So they need to be burned in a funeral pyre with a coin under their tongues. I think we can all chip in for the coins. But someone would have to kill them and gather some wood for the funeral pyres.
@ Rufus, Hey, that's pretty impressive. How many games is that? If it's more than six, Yankees should hire you as the team chaperone in Boston. Get your tickets for free for life.
If we assume that there is fifty-fifty chance of winning a game there, it's just like flipping a coin. What are the chances of getting "ALL HEADS" in seven flips of the coin? 1 in 128, or .0078, less than 1 percent. So if you went to seven Yankee games in Boston, and the Yanks won them all, you've done something at least 99 out of 100 others couldn't have done.
All true Horace. Unfortunately, do not expect to see Judge anytime soon!
Quite the embarrassment last night. German didn’t have it, and Krook was criminal. Looked like he had tears in his eyes after the game. But it was even worse than that, a truly sloppy poorly played game all around. Rizzo used to be a GG @ 1B. Used to be…
Bad news: Stanton stepped on Judge’s toe in the clubhouse. 🎶See you in September…
Good news: Stanton pulled a calf muscle in doing so. What did they used to say in Brooklyn? “Wait ‘til next year!”
Pray for a rainout tonight.
Born to Run--->
Can you lead us in that prayer?
Hammer, I like your thinking.
Especially the "...burned in a funeral pyre with a coin under their tongues..." part.
I'd be happy to "...kill them and gather some wood for the funeral pyres..."
But, would the FBI come looking for me? Would my saying it be considered a credible threat? Or does that fall under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security?
Hammer,
More than 10 games, but probably not more than 20. First one was Bucky Dent game. First at Yankee Stadium was 6/27/87 (easy to find since it was the day *after* Clemens blew a 9-0 lead. I was staying with my brother in the city and we watched the first two innings depressed. We decided to go around the corner for a burger and a brew -- in the time it took us to lock up (four locks) walk down 4 flights and go around the corner to the bar on the same block, the Yankees were down by three. By the time we had a beer in hand, the Yankees were leading. They ended up winning in 10)
The game we went to the next day started Yankees down 1 in the bottom of the first -- Randolph walk, error, Mattingly 3 run HR. Final 9-1.
I went to a lot of games at phenweigh courtesy of my sister in law whose company built some minor league parks in New England plus the company I worked for had two sets of season tickets.
Gary Sanchez is slamming home runs for the Padres.
Aaron Hicks is gangbusters in Baltimore.
Gio is having a great year, but not here.
If the Cards are sellers at the trade deadline, Jordan Montgomery is in the last year of his contract and might be put on the block.
Rodon has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment.
Jackie continues to suck, including at key moments on defense. Will they bench him? Put him lower in the order? Release him? Find an "injury" that keeps him on the IL until his contract is done? Hire a couple goombahs to inflict an injury?
Not that anything matters or is going to save this hapless team. But just saying.
@ Rufus, Holy crap, that's an unparalleled success rate. If Yankee management knew what it was doing, you'd get free tickets for life!
@ DickAllen, No worries, FBI & Homeland Security are very busy these days scanning the skies for Chinese spy balloons and UFOs. They've got no time to waste on ordinary terrestrial phenomena like funeral pyres and coins under corpses' tongues.
@ JM, I heard Ma Yankee last night say that Gio Urshela broke his pelvis while doing trying to re-enact John Travolta's disco dancing in Saturday Night Fever. The thing with the back of the head to the floor and bouncing up without using your hands.
Did I write "while" there? Shit, I missed a chance to write "whilst". In the immortal words of the Master, I should be whipped, flogged, and flagellated.
Or maybe it happened whilst doing a split whilst playing 1st base. Gotta work on your flexibility Gio. If you're that tight, how'll you ever play goal for the New York Rangers?
@ Horace....I live about 7 miles from Yale medical school. I can always buy a pair of scrubs and a face mask, then go snoop around to see if I can find that injury information.
@ JM...Actually, Sanchez started hot for the Pods, but he's 0-16 with a ton of Ks in his last 5 games and is back to flirting with the .200 mark. So the cream is settling back at the bottom where it usually coagulates with Gary.
@ Rufus...My son was at Fenway last night. He can go to as many games as he wants because he works for Samuel Adams/Boston Beer and they own that high-priced special seating section on the roof past the foul pole. All you can drink and eat.
Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen! Broadcasting live from da Bronx Bullion Breastworks Ball Park in the da Bronx, New Yawk, it's Michael Kay, along with David Cone. Today, the New York Yankees visit the Bronx Beer Bullies!
Brought to you by The Bronx Bullion, if you want to hump like a man, you've got be hung like a bull! Check out the largest selection of sex toys in the continental United States, all at the Bronx Bullion! And also brought to you by the Bronx Breastworks, where it doesn't cost a fortune to augment your breasts. Ladies, come in for a ten percent special on the round trip to Mexico breast augmentation surgery. You don't have to be Donald Trump's wife to look like a billion bucks!
Kay: Well, David, what do we look out for in this game? I've heard the ace of the Bronx Beer Bullies tops out at 36 mph on his fastball. Think the slow speeds might give the Yankee hitters trouble?
Cone: I think it will give them lots of trouble. These guys in the Yankee lineup, Stanton especially, are geared to hit 96 mph heat, not 36 mph. We might be in for an afternoon of watching zero exit velocity, zero launch angle as they swing in vain at 36 mph butterflies.
(Narrator: we will spare the viewers the frustration of watching the first nine innings of Yankee hitters flailing at 36 mph butterflies. Suffice it to say that the Yankee offense consisted of nine Platinum Immaculate Innings. That's where no hitter touched the ball, and every hitter struck out on three swings. So nine Beer Bullies pitchers threw a total of 81 pitches, and there were 81 swings and misses by Yankee hitters. An unprecedented feat of non-hitting. Aaron Boone was thrown out arguing that 36 mph fastballs is cheating. "We are savages in the box. We're geared for 96. Throw baseballs, not lollipops! You Beer Bullies belong in Little League!") And so, let's join the game in the bottom of the 9th inning, with the Beer Bullies up, the score is 0-0.)
Kay: All of the pressure is on the Yankees. They'll be the official laughingstock of baseball if they lose this game.
Cone: Boone protested the game. The only protest ever upheld was the Pine Tar Incident. If Boone's protest is upheld, it would be better for the Yankees to just concede the game. Because they have to play the Ten Year Old Girls Little League All Star Team tomorrow at 12 noon. So if the protest is upheld, we'd have to do a bus ride to the Beer Bullion Ball Park at 9 A.M. Play the game over again. And then bus ride back to the Girls game in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. That'd be tough to do. Too much travel, too little time. Might have to call in the Bandit. (Sings)"We've got a long way to go, and short time to get there, we're gonna do what they say can't be done"
Kay: Oh no, whilst the Yankee pitcher wasn't looking, the umpire just allowed three base runners to reach. There must have been numerous pitch clock violations, but the umpire never tapped his wrist to indicate it. The bases were loaded. And NOW, there goes another batter to first base. A run is forced home. HERE COMES THE RUNNER, AND THE YANKEES LOSE ON A PITCH CLOCK VIOLATION, 1-0!
I salute you Hammer.
Job well done, Sir.
Hammer,
I have seen them lose in person lots of times. But never to the carmines. I think this is the last Yankees/carmines game I went to:
www.espn.com/mlb/game?gameId=401076871
Since “everybody’s doing it - here’s the last game I went to at Fenway:
https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/280411102
Unfortunately later that year - this happened:
https://www.pinstripealley.com/platform/amp/2022/6/15/23167905/yankees-history-chien-ming-wang-injury-foot-baserunning-designated-hitter
The last time I was in that festering cesspool was Saturday July 31st.
Catfish got creamed, and as the lone Yankees fan in section 31, so did I.
I will never set foot in that industrial waste site again. Ever.

AA,
I see Jogginson was batting .159 -- They should have sent him back to the minors.
Prayer Answered.
Game called tonight, playing a split tomorrow.
Thanks God!
That should be reductio, not reducto. The blog needs a copy editor.
This blog needs a troll exterminator.
Perhaps Harry Potter can use his Reducto spell, RT. Firefly.
Hey Hoss - didn’t know you were a fan of the boy wizard….
Rainout Theater suggestion, please
https://youtu.be/LtR8EBEH1mA
AA -- another unprovoked ad hominem attack, appealing to your lover-boy comrade Rufus in personal abuse, the one whose recurring "turd in the pool" comments you find to be so witty. I guess this is your idea of "ending the malarkey." We certainly don't need a copy editor to detect sanctimonious hypocrisy or disruptive flame addicts like you on this blog.
Now treat us to another sermon about ending the malarkey--right after you wipe the foam from your mouth.
I think that the word "exterminator" from Rufus amounts to a death threat. This guy is clearly a psychopath. Stang and duque--do you tolerate death threats from psychopaths on your blog?
Rainout theater, suggestion 2:
https://youtu.be/3OiExTyoQdc
And finally a third:
https://youtu.be/n-wUdetAAlY
AA,
Somehow I knew Dr. Phibes would be involved, even before I looked.
The third is a little short, even with the opening and closing credits.
...and it's hilarious that the grammar critic wannabee can't even fucking read (or separate prose into paragraphs). He read Archie's comment on Malarkey and has attributed it to you multiple times. Public education isn't what it used to be, and it wasn't even good when it was what it used to be. At least I get a chuckle out of it, but not as good as Bambi. And lithium isn't just for batteries. ...and should be taken every day. Pizza boy must be ignoring Doctor's orders.
Brother Maynard, bring out the Holy Hand Grenade. The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!!!
I misattributed Archangel's malarkey comment from another thread to Above Average. For this venial sin I will recite the requisite number of mea culpas. But both of these "A's" have been odious flamers at times and hence easily confused, although Above Average has been far more zealous in his compulsive provocations of late. Both have been co-enablers of the blog's pre-eminent psychopath, Rufus or Goat or whatever asinine nic he's adopting to spew his diseased venom over a sports blog: Archangel by his silence and therefore tacit assent at Rufus's demented abuses, and Above Average by active complicity and abetting.
At one point stang was moderating the blog to prevent this kind of chronic abuse. I think that moderation is long overdue once again now that the Psychopath-in-Chief has posted a death threat, which is a violation of Federal law punishable by up to five years in prison. I plan to report this death threat to the overseers of Blogger, so if this problem is not corrected, the entire blog is in danger of being canceled for violation of Blogger Community Guidelines. Duque and stang should take this kind of abuse of their blog seriously and impose the measures needed to prevent any further degeneration of discourse at the hands of the three main culprits and co-enablers: "Rufus" (aka "Goat" and other alt nics), "Kevin," and "Above Average." If they don't, every discussion will degenerate into a flame war, and repeated violations of Community Standards will pose the risk of Blogger canceling this blog altogether.
It's time to clean the Augean stables.
At any moment Attorney General Merrick Garland and his Brownshirts will be kicking the doors in.
EDB...I was with you a lot on your social commentary until your statement that Rufus's reply was somehow a death threat. You know better than that. Or should.
What a Mind-fucker that just keeps on giving...
@ Kevin: The only Brownshirts in US politics these days are connected to Trump serving as security at his rallies and other aligned White Supremacist fake para-military pussy groups.
Carl J. Weitz--If the blog allows chronic bullying and death threats--which people like you ignore encourage--then you need to find a new hobby. It is the chronic abusers who are violating the viability of the blog, not I. I will add your comment to the roster of violations of Community Guidelines. Thanks.
Carl J. Weitz: You've supported my comments on Yankee racism? Then why haven't you ever posted a comment to that effect? You're afraid to support one of the outsiders? Afraid that will endanger your status as one of the frat members? And why haven't you ever posted a syllable of reproach for the chronic, unprovoked, vile abuse emanating from "Rufus," "Kevin," and "Above Average," whose constant invective makes any civil discourse on this blog impossible? Your previous tacit endorsement by silence has now become overt endorsement. You are no better than they are. You lack the guts to speak out against their disruptions, but you're only too happy to pile on against the outsider. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Carl, the young girl has issues that go way beyond "serious" , and have nothing to do with societal issues. Just as any good virus does, it probes until a receptor is found. Once that receptor is taken away, it probes around until another weaknesses is found. Even when pulled out of the host, enough particles remain to regenerate itself. If you study it long enough you will come to see,and perhaps understand its' malignancy. Its tenacity is only exceeded by its amazing hostility. If you must approach take care to use complete protection, and only when surrounded by high gamma radiation levels. Forewarned is forearmed.
EDB...You're fucked up in the head. If you can't handle the back-and-forth on a sports blog, then I doubt you can handle any negativity in life at all. You are probably an inch away from going postal. As far as adding my comment to whoever you claim will give a crap about your paranoid ramblings, don't forget to add a few exclamation points when I tell you to go fuck yourself.
Carl, did you see how fast it mutated?!
The CDC should be notified, the specimen needs to be isolated and studied within a very secure facility.
Thanks, Carl. I will add your latest round of abuse to my report to the overseers of blogger. You have sat by on your hands while Rufus, Kevin, and Above Average have smeared their chronic abuse on this blog since forever. Now you explode with your own round of vituperation. You think a sports blog entails constant degrading comments about "turds in the pool" and derision of the working poor with Rufus's "Pizza Boy" rants? If so, you have a different conception of sports and blogging than I do. You have joined the feral mob you should be opposing. Congratulations--I'm sure you now feel like a better person than you did an hour ago.
This is my last comment to you, EDB. You must be as blind as you are clueless. I have indeed mentioned that I didn't mind your posts as they did have some merit and I am not one for censorship. But, I've discovered that you are as the professor in the film Waterboy said about Adam Sandler's character:" There's something wrong with that boy's medulla oblongata".
THanks, Carl. Now that's three of your posts that I will report to Blogger. It is people like you who are endangering the blog. You and the abusers with whom you now make common cause should ponder these words from a great thinker:
"Men have the same carnal nature as animals. If a hen is hurt, the others rush upon it, attacking it with their beaks. This phenomenon is as automatic as gravitation. Our senses attach all the scorn, all the revulsion, all the hatred that our reason attaches to crime, to affliction. Except for those whose whole soul is inhabited by Christ, everybody despises the afflicted to some extent, although practically no one is conscious of it."
THe quotation above also pertains to the people on this blog--too many to name--who tacitly endorse Yankee racism by refusing to condemn it or speak out about it.
Is the movie up yet?
I remember when Chiller Theater (channel 11 - broadcast) showed Fiend Without a Face back in the good old days when my preteen late nights were spent in front of a black and white tv watching movies with the sound turned way down.
Pizza boy, once again, cite a racist post. One. Uno. Une. (1) . A singularity. You are an impotent troll.
THREE years ago (or was it four?) you claimed to have this amazing ability to trace me and "out" me here. Still waiting, impotent one.
*now*, you're claiming to get us all on double secret probation by reporting ALL of us to the blogger dean wormers? You are truly fucked in the cabeza. I'd say seek medical help, but obviously you have ignored your shrink's advice. Better to get a cheap .22 or .25 and buy 5 bullets. The first four for when you chicken shit out of doing the right thing, and the last for when you think the pistol is empty, doing the world a favor.
I await you attending the game on the 24th. I'll even buy you a ticket and your first beer if you have the guts to show. Bring your keyboard, keyboard warrior.
Above Average, did you ever see "Eyes Without a Face" (yes, Billy Idol was inspired by the movie). French movie, circa 1960. A movie that would make The Virus squirm.
Yes I did - Kevin - I've seen a lot :)
I guess so, not a movie easily seen. 😰
I suggest that everyone ignore EDB. He isn't here to discuss and debate. He's here to cause trouble. Nothing more. So, no matter what he writes, pretend he doesn't exist and eventually he will go elsewhere.
By the way, I do remember Pizza Boy from a few years ago. He was the person that claimed to be an expert in statistics, if I remember correctly.
listen, stat baby asshole. if you hate us so much, WHY DON’T YOU LEAVE? what are you getting out of being here? I’ll probably ignore you as much as I can because life is too short to spend any time on utter assholes who attack people, have no sense of humor, and take themselves too seriously. I don’t care whether you have Aspergers or any other diagnosis. you’re simply an asshole and not as smart as you think you are. fuck off.
He was anonymous, then pizza boy, then Barney and now EBD
It's a bit, with friend of the blog EBD. Performance art. Cliched, derivative, obvious, and kind of pathetic performance art, but performance art nonetheless. Like Carl said, best to ignore EBD, and to resist the strong temptation to mock and ridicule.
Carl,
EBD is not EDB as far as I can tell (unless it a a jeckyl/hyde sorta thing). My suspicion is that pizza boy, stat boy, barney changes its scaly skin whenever it is revealed to be the vile turd that it is. EDB has provided normal (for us anyway) commentary.
EBD aka EXPLOSIVE BOWEL DISORDER, aka verbal diarrhea, is barney, pizza boy et. al. Any vile commentary here is this one individual. I agree, she/he/shitturd should not be attempted to be reasoned with. There is a chemical imbalance that may not be limited to the leftover brown acid.
Listen folks, don't feed the trolls. Don't give this person attention. Unless we bring back active moderation, which is a drag, I'm sure, we just have to ignore him.
EBD is a woman, she admitted to me last year in her Barney Days. I noticed that although constantly castigating me for not giving attribution to anything that I wrote , many times she herself wouldn't. See the example above, she quotes Simone Weil, which is almost, but not quite ironic in nature. I don't recall her hammering Duque or HC.
Really a shame to see someone get so toxic.
I can't believe that I didn't consider a simple google of "EBD". Yep, it all makes sense now, even though it's very wide in it's symptom spectrum. I agree with you guys, she must be ignored even though she'll return in a different guise. Her writing style is very easy to ID, so we'll have to be vigilant when the time comes. Sad story, but I'm not a psychiatrist, and I don't care to have to share any of my bliss with this individual.
The trick is to not give into the temptation to read any of her posts. She possesses a great instinct for getting under the skin...
Yes, wise words from all of you concerning this issue,,,, and Kevin, that simple google search explains everything!
Looking forward to meeting again in person, and Bitty, I love your idea for the sign, at least we can enthusiastically celebrate the majesty of The Master!
But where’s the movie?
Let's get clear on something. In EVERY instance, including today, the first volley of personal attack comes from "Rufus T. Firefly" (aka "Goat"--he seems to suffer from multiple-personality disorder, or simply the desire to appear to be a crowd rather than a lone nut), "Kevin," or "Above Average." Today I simply inserted an innocent quip about "Reductio" vs. "Reducto." No personal attack on anyone--just a mild correction. The immediate response? From Rufus/Goat:
Blogger Rufus T. Firefly said...
This blog needs a troll exterminator.

And it steamrolls from there, in typical mob psychology. Of course the incorrigible blog loner/obsessive Kevin, to whom not a single word had been addressed in this thread, piles on to get his innings of malice in--just as Kevin charge ahead, snorting and fulminating his standard armory of abuse, last night in response to a couple of my posts on Yankee racism.
Now frankly I'm sick of this BS. Rufus, Kevin, and lately Above Average have been spewing deranged abuse over this blog since forever, but all the solemn strictures about tone and comportment are never directed to them, the provocateurs. Only to their targets. That is hypocritical. It's the hypocrisy and double standard of a mindless mob. If duque and stang are content to allow this blog to be overrun by these guys, fine. As of today, I am going to report abusive posts to Blogger. Nothing may happen--but if these guys persist with their invective and vendettas, then the blog itself could be at risk. And it will be on them. I do not initiate personal attacks against anyone. If I am subjected to any, I will continue to report them to Blogger. So you guys either restrain the three blog thugs--and it's only those three--or you may end up needing to find yourselves a new hobby to while away your sunset years.
Now consider for a moment whom you're dealing with. "Kevin" is a far-right-wing classic racist/sexist. He tipped his hand today with the following, taken straight from the playbook of the Fox News Channel:
Blogger Kevin said...
At any moment Attorney General Merrick Garland and his Brownshirts will be kicking the doors in.
June 17, 2023 at 8:24 PM
He is an obvious loner type who has some serious problems with women--he has repeatedly made it clear that he considers it a devastating insult to call someone a woman, as he did again today yet again when addressing a comment to me.
He has posted two appalling mockeries of black people. First, this from June 12 at 10:41 p.m.--his sneering racist parody of African American dialect:
"You jess gots too."
Then, from last night, when Kevin replicated one of the most nauseating myths of the antebellum slave South, implying that black people are stronger and more athletic than white people. Either he or a blog moderator zapped that one, but it was there--I responded to it in detail at 10:52 p.m.in the thread on Florial initated by duque.
So if you guys want to declare your solidarity with this kind of racist/sexist compulsive flame addict, who initates every one of the personal exchanges I've had with him, enjoy yourselves. But please take a shower to get rid of the stench of hypocrisy next time you lecture anybody on blog deportment.
I’m just going to watch a movie on my tv - sleep well everyone.
Two games tomorrow!
Now let's examine your other beloved flame addict, Rufus T. Firefly (aka Goat).
He initiated the acrimony today with his lovely little illegal death threat about exterminating the blog "troll." Of course, it's a classic Stalinist inversion of reality to accuse someone else of your own crimes. Nearly every time I post, he pops up with his brilliant "turd in the pool" posts that his boyfriends Kevin and Above Average find so witty and endearing.
Rufus/Goat is an appalling racist thug who has made a virtual career out of endlessly re-pasting his Pizza Boy rant. And exactly whom does he think he is deriding here? He is belittling the working poor who labor in the food-service industry, preparing and delivering fast food--mostly people of color. So this is a disgusting combination of racism and class snobbery. But do Carl Weitz of any other members of the ravening mob call him out on these deranged racist taunts? No way--because it's not about comportment--it's about ostracising the outsider, the apostate, the one values analytics and who dares to point out and document the racist history of your beloved Yankees.
So let's at least be honest about what's going on here: if people cared about deportment, they would be all over the provocateurs like Rufus-Goat and Kevin and Above Average. But that faux sanctimony is just a cover for the mindless stampede of groupthink that wants to trample anyone who doesn't march to the ordained blog dogmas: who thinks that the Yankees are racist; who thinks that John Sterling is an incompetent, pompous ass; who agrees with a poster of today or yesterday that Suzyn's commentary is either vacuous or just so much snide attitudinizing; who finds enormous value in the analytics methodology that no one on this blog (except Zachary) seems to understand or have read much about but that prevails in the most conistently successful front offices in baseball--a group that does not include the Yankees. Cashman is just too stupid to understand or consitently apply analytics, contrary to one of the most stubborn misconceptions of the blog herd.
This, then, is the behavior of a lynch mob, a gathering of herd animals, to borrow Nietzsche's term. The whole problem could be solved by banning or restraining precisely three recidivist culprits: Rufus/Goat, Kevin, and Above Average. But the blog moderators just stand to one side and do nothing, while the culpable claque of three gathers their recruits to their little lynch mob.
Now . . . if you're going act like a barbarous mob, I'm going to report it. You either engage in civil discourse and debate, or you risk sacrificing your beloved little hobby horse. As far as I'm concerned, one less redoubt of groupthink, racism, sexism, and malicious mob psychology will be no great loss to the world.
Last point: either Kevin or a moderator or Blogger has deleted his repugnant, openly racist posts. But I have screen shots of them and have already reported them to Blogger. If anyone wants to see them, give me a heads up, and I'll find a way to arrange it.
I feel so ashamed.
EBD did not include me in the people to disdain.
Well, as when Dooley Womack took the mound, there's always hope.
