Yankees catcher Austin Wells says that his wretched 2026 season at the plate—as opposed to his merely awful seasons at the plate in 2023, 2024, and 2025—may have been caused by multiple foul tips to the head. His condition only improved (marginally) after treatment, and switching to a "bulkier...hockey-style mask."
Figures high in the Yankees' front office, who wished to remain anonymous, put the blame for Wells' injuries squarely where it belonged: on Aaron Judge.
"Actually, Wells wanted to go on the IL and switch to the bulkier mask much earlier than he did," one such source, who insisted that he be identified only as "LT," insisted. "Boone, Brian Cashman, all of us wanted Austin to get looked over. But Aaron Judge kept goading, taunting him into playing."
Some sources went even further.
"There is serious evidence that Aaron Judge actually inflicted those multiple blows to Austin's head," claimed another individual, who demanded that he be referred to only as "RL." "I heard from someone who knows someone who should know someone that there is video evidence somewhere of Judge actually sneaking into the trainers' room while Wells was napping, and hitting him with Jazz Chisholm's baseball bat."
Asked why Judge would possibly do such a thing, "RL" merely shrugged.
"Who knows why Judge does what he does? The man is capable of anything. Remember when he concussed Anthony Rizzo, but kept making Rizzo play everyday? We didn't want to go along with it, but Judge is a big, big guy, and he will stop at nothing. I understand that he has access to a tactical nuclear device."
Above is a photograph of Judge allegedly making a great catch against the Dodgers in the 2024 World Series, though Yankees insiders claimed he actually used the opportunity to pass the Yanks' signals on to their opponents in the bullpen."It was completely irrational," confirmed another Yankees higher-up known only as "BC." "Not only did Judge disable Wells, but then he physically prevented us from acquiring a great catcher to replace him. I had a deal all lined up to get Hunter Goodman from Colorado, in exchange for two Dominican Summer League pitchers and $50 in ShopRite coupons. All I had to do was call the Rockies' GM back. But Aaron Judge pulled out my telephone, stood in front of my office door and would not let me out until it was too late."
To penalize Judge for his general savagery regarding Wells, the Yankees' front office said it would do nothing, save to continue to berate him in sleazy newspapers and on sports radio.

Which player is Aaron Judge again, Hoss ?
I've begun to lose track over this off season and could benefit from a reminder, please.
Thank you in advance for both your assistance and, understanding.
Time to get ready for my trip to the dentist.
There are actually paid employees there that use tools to work inside your mouth (well my mouth, or "one's mouth") to clean, inspect and repair teeth!
Frankly, I'm always impressed each and every time I go there.
Although I do have to confess that my Dentist is no Dr. Zizmor . . .
I've always thought the lighter catcher's masks used these days are no good. It's just physics. A body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay at rest. A body with more mass will tend to stay at rest more than a body with less mass. So it might weigh down your head and require more neck strength, but a heavy steel mask supplies more mass and will tend to protect more against concussive forces. Maybe the old style mask made of thick, heavy steel, but with more aerodynamic styling to deflect and disperse the force of the baseball would be best.
I think Wells needs to get rid of that stupid torpedo bat. That caused at least some of his retrogression. Just think about it: the torpedo bat, in exchange for more mass at the sweet spot, gives away too much at the end of the bat. So, unless you get the ball on the sweet spot, you're going to strike out even more, a lot more. It turns you even more into an all or nothing hitter. I have serious questions about Wells' intelligence level. If he can't understand that....
Here is that full quote from Judge, courtesy of yahoo.
"We're the Yankees," Judge said. "I feel like they should go all-in and do what they need to do. If we got holes, it's finding certain players or personnel, whatever we need; you gotta go out there and get it. That's why I signed back here to play with the Yankees, to fight for a championship every single year. We go all-in. That's what I do every offseason: get ready to give this team and this city everything I got. So I expect them to do the same."
"We're the Yankees." - No argument there.
"They should go all in and do what they need to do." - Again, no argument there.
"That's why I signed back here to play with the Yankees, to fight for a championship every single year. We go all-in. That's what I do every offseason: get ready to give this team and this city everything I got. So I expect them to do the same." - Uh, sorry Aaron, but you should've signed somewhere else, because the Yankees have not gone "all-in" since the winter of 2008, for the 2009 season, which resulted in a championship. Since the winter of 2010, Yankee management has been focused only on various financial goals. It's been nothing to do with going "all-in". The Yankees haven't "[fought] for a championship" since 2010. That's a lot of losing. A lot of mediocrity. A lot of coming up short. Only one World Series appearance during that time. And that one was a douzy, for sure. If it's going to be a clown show, it's better not to make it to the finals. They forged a legacy of ineptitude in 2024 that nobody is ever going to forget.
All too true, Hammer!
This is what makes It Is great.
That gigantic fucker!!!!
I hear ya, AA. Last fall, I had to sit for all kinds of annoying dental work after having face-planted in Times Square. Ain't age grand?
