During the regular season, the '26 Yankees had the fifth best record in baseball.
To do this, they spent $244 million on salaries, the fourth highest payroll in baseball.
In the October postseason, they went 2-3 and were swept by a team they outspent in salaries by $130 million.
The owner considers it a success, because the Yankees won 93 games.
By his measure, they have achieved 10 successful seasons in the 17 years since their last championship.
A job well done, people!
Before we toast another glorious Yankee season, a brief announcement:
The Yankees will bring back our "dynamic duo," our favorite GM and manager, for at least one more year, though we hope for many seasons to come!
Unfortunately, there is a chance that no baseball will be played in '27, or that a shorter season will not launch until mid-summer.
America will not have baseball.
New York will not have the Yankees.
Our owner will not have a team.
But as the years go by, we will always be able to think back on 2026 and smile.
I'm popping my buttons. We won 93 games.

I for one am grateful that the DEVILS did not have a better record than the brew crew.
I am staying a 10 minute walk from the indoor arcade in St. Pete the next two days. Bad enough that it will be on every tv.
Winning 93 games is not a failure if your goal was to win 93 games.
If your goal is getting to the World Series, it is a failure. If your goal is winning a World Series, it is also a failure.
And that is the trouble with this team, in a nutshell. Management is fine with the 93 wins. The fans want the other goals. Which we won't reach as long as Hal, Cashman, and Boone are in place.
I for one am grateful that the re-release of Ken Russell’s (uncut and restored and remastered) The Devils did so well in its week-long run that it was extended for an additional week.
I hate them all so very very much.
If there is no baseball next season, and the Yankees do not field a team, does Hal still own an 8billion dollar franchise?
YES
Hal said the players did not come through but actually they did…
As Brian Cashman likes to say, and I’m paraphrasing here, “Sooner or later a player will perform to the back of their baseball card. “
So did the 2026 Yankees do that? Absolutely! They played to the mediocrities that they are.
In 2026 Trent Grisham batted .211
His lifetime BA is . 217 Close enough.
In 2026 he hit 18 HRs.
In his eight year career he has hit 122.
122/8 15.25 HR a year. So he was actually better.
In 2026 Anthony Volpe hit .245 beating his lifetime avg of .225
In 2026 Cody Bellinger hit .264. Career .261
73 RBIs Ten year career 768 768/10 = 76.8
The third baseman who was not a good hitter was not a good hitter.
The catcher who was not a good hitter was not a good hitter.
The oft injured DH was wait for it... injured.
The OF acquisition who was supposed to kill lefties but couldn't hit righties was put in the lineup against, wait for it... righties.
The 2B who suffers from massive lapses in attention thought it was OK to suck on a lollypop in the field.
They were who they were. They are who they are.
The Yankees ARE locked and loaded.
Problem is, the gun is aimed at their foot.
F-Troop.
Boone is Captain Palmeter and we ain't got an O'Rourke on the roster.
It is . . . Balloon !
Boooone!
Yeah, that's it, in a nutshell! They've stopped trying to win championships. That's called mediocrity, in my book.
Cone would have to be their O'Rourke
Yep, that's what happened. Filter out all the noise and we see it's nothing but bull shit. HAL's press conference, what a load of bull shit.
Cone is an excellent choice. It's too bad he's stuck in the booth.
The ‘26 season will be remembered as us getting swept by TB in the playoffs.
A-fucking-men, Doug!! Absolutely!
What Cashman is really like me when I was about 11, and saying, "Hey, you never know. Jerry Kenney COULD hit .300! Jack Gibbs MIGHT hit 25 home runs! It could happen."
The only big, unexpected thing that went wrong was Judge getting injured. But then, Judge gets hurt a lot, and missed serious time in 2018, 2019, and 2023, so even that was not really unexpected...
...And at the same time, Brian Cashman had a great big go RIGHT—go bigger and better than he could possibly have expected.
The Yankees' pitching staff was far and away the best in the American League, and maybe the best in baseball. The starters just got better and better, but the bullpen was also very good. Even when there were injuries, they tended only to reveal how good other pitchers on the staff were.
Going into the playoffs they were, shall we say, LOCKED AND LOADED.
In the postseason, only Max Fried really fucked up, and even that wasn't horrible—4 runs in 6 innings or so. Even mediocre hitting, fielding, and managing would have got them into the World Series. But...no could do.
Instead, another sweep, which seem to come constantly in the Cashman Era.
It was of course absolutely a success - they secured more private equity financing! The owners got considerably richer the last 17 years straight - why change.
Judge is injured a lot, which explains his camaraderie with the glass man.
They differ in that Judge will try to play through it.
Get your blow dryers out and dry the pee off your slacks that Hal says is water.
