The Yanks lost. Their record was 43-26-1. I bet Casey wouldn't have waited one batter too many to yank AJ.

I never could understand why Casey batted Richardson first most of the time. He was awful. Career OBP .299. Never higher than .337.

You're right Joe. In retrospect they should have kept Jerry Lumpe instead.
He had about the same lifetime BA, but a career OBP of .325. Plus he had a lot more power.

I think they thought Richardson was a better fielder, but the stats on Baseball-Reference.com don't support that. But we did get Ralph Terry in the Lumpe trade; maybe the A's didn't want Richardson.
