Bags Full Of Goodies

Yesterday, we saw a cornucopia of Yankee prospects and players. As usual, I focused on some no name guys.

1. I figured out that the dude hitting BP with Cano the other day has a name; Dywane Wise. He got in the game yesterday against the Phillies and was 2-3 as our lefty-throwing centerfielder, including an RBI triple. He played fine defense and looks to have an arm as well. Did I mention that he can run? Who is this guy?

2. There is also a guy wearing #73 whose name reads, "Garner." He hit a double and a HR against the Phils and nearly threw out a guy at first after rounding the bag on a single to RF. Garner had done well against USF the previous day. It also appears he has some speed.

3. Then, there is my new man, Zoilo Almonte. Zoilo only played an inning or two against the Phillies but banged out a two run double. This, after a big day against USF. He looks like a tall, sleek, wiry, fast athlete.

Prediction; we won't see any of these guys again until next spring. But they are all young, which counts for something.

I will add that Granderson hit a double and homer before he was pulled. He is one guy that the pitchers are not ahead of at this point. Grandy, Swisher, Gardner and Martin were the only regulars starting against the Phils.

Ivan Nova started and went two innings. He gave up an unearned run due to Nunez' first fielding error of the season, on the first ground ball hit to short. Otherwise, Ivan looks the same as last year. Good.

Then a triple A dude ( Phellps ) went two solid innings, one hit ( single ) and one K. He looked good.

Banuelos, our new Guidry, went two innings ( one hit; two walks, no runs ). In other words, he could have been sharper, but he worked his way out of trouble and had a good outing because of that.

Then, in comes a 6'10'string bean named Bettances. He could not find the plate for a while, threw about three 122 mph wild pitches , but got a key double play and escaped his inning clean. He was clearly upset with himself and they needed several trips to the mound ( catcher, coach, SS, ballgirl from Hooters) to re-enforce his confidence. Let me just say that he does not appear to have the mentality of an NFL corner. In other words, he needs a shorter memory. I think he wants to be mlb ready, but isn't.

Cabral gave up 2 hits, no runs in one inning. But didn't leave much of an impression. Never heard of him. Probably a 42 year old venezuelan.

The worst was some odd-motion type pitcher named O'Connor. He tries so hard to hide the ball that he practically rocks halfway off the mound. He was hammered. I got hammered later.

We also got to see Gary Sanchez, who caught the last 4-5 innings. I wanted to judge his arm to second, but when a Philly did attempt a steal the base, Bettances through a wild pitch. He got no hits for the offense.

Believe it or not, there are some other guys who got on the field that we will never hear of again; Joseph ( 2nd base ), Nix ( 3rd ), Maxwell ( OF ).

All in all, an easy win against the Phillies who started Cole Hamels and followed up with an inning from Papelbutt, the former redsox drunk.

It is really windy today in Tampa, so I think the yanks will start CC.
