At last, a fairy tale ending takes shape?

Red Thunder is playing ball again.

He singled to center, flew out to left, grounded to third.

(By the way, if you're not reading the comments on this site, you're missing everything.)

John Olerud wore a helmet when he played in the field. Maybe they'll let Frazier wear one too.

Thanks for the nod to The Commentariat, Duque.

Not to be a total downer, but of course just above Clint's name is that of Estevan Florial, our supposed centerfielder of the future, now hitting .247 in High A ball, in his 4th year of pro ball.

Hey, not to worry: he has 3 homers in 71 games, is 9-19 in stealing bases, and has one more assist than errors in the outfield (Sigh).

Just below him is the highly touted Isiah Gilliam, he of the great bloodlines. In HIS 4th year of pro ball, he's hitting .259 with 148 strikeouts, is 4-9 in stealing bases, and has 6 OF errors to go with his 6 assists.

Double sigh.

Hoss, don't bash the children until we've thoroughly finished with their elders.

Frankly, I don't think this is a very good time to bring Frazier up. If the Yankees continue to be the uninspiring team they are now, it would demoralize the kid. And I am afraid too many expectations placed on him to be some kind of savior in the outfield may send him spiraling downward if he should not be successful. I say leave the kid alone, let him heal up for next year, and make a deal for McCutcheon.

@TWW...actually Clint needs one of those cricket batsmen helmets with the face mask.

@apoorplayer...McCutcheon is on the other side of his career...no thanks. And if Frazier is reasonably healthy, he can't be worse than Swiss Family Robinson...

Is the irrational exuberance of the Happ era already over?

Is it too early to say Happ is crap?

Voit is the Bird we always wanted.

Fucking Betances.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

just OH fuck.

Take Britton out for Toonces.

Yeah, fucking brilliant.

Don't worry Higashioka and Robinson will bail them out in the bottom of the inning.

Randy Levine was right. Betances is no closer.

Cue Liza with a Z.

Fucking shit.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Levine was right, but he's still a fucking asshole.

I hate this team right now. It is disgusting how they lose.

Sorry, but no amount of thunder - red, periwinkle, chartreuse, or baby-shit brown - can redeem us from the hideous, never-ending, "Groundhog Day" repetitive reign of Betances. I hated the guy from the first and never trusted him for one inning. But yet he is allowed to continue to the point that no one questions using him, no matter what is happening on the field or who's coming to bat. It's sort of like how we've gotten accustomed to every syllable from your president as being one lie after another, and no one seems to care: it's gotten to the point of being taken for granted. I am fucking furious right now. The assholes who deign to keep him under contract and - even worse - to USE him should be banned from baseball.

I haven't seen pineapples that bad since, well the last time he did his thing. Magnificent.

My agreement with Rufus T. Firefly – that I hate this mess that calls itself a team and find them disgusting – began some time ago and is quickly reaching its apex. Hail, hail Freedonia! Have they got a team? Would they take Betances off our hands with a nice contribution form Mrs. Teasdale? We’ll even throw in a couple of gallons of duck soup. As Ciccolini relates: "Monday we watch-a Firefly's house, but he no come out. He wasn't home. Tuesday we go to the ball game, but he fool us: he no show up. Wednesday he go to the ball game, but we fool him, we no show up. Thursday it was a double-header, nobody show up. Friday it rained all day, there was no ball game, so we stayed home, we listen to it over the radio."

HoraceClarke66 said...

That was awful. And yes, I think we can safely conclude, after this his 25th or 30th failure, that Toonces is NOT a closer.

That said, he HAS been about their most consistent reliever this year.

What I want to know is, is there some kind of rule now where Brett Gardner HAS to strike out with men on second and third in every game?

HoraceClarke66 said...

And...McCutcheon is supposedly a done deal.

Great. A .255 hitter with 123 Ks. He should fit right in.

HoraceClarke66 said...

According to Fan Graphs, Betances has saved 33 games in the majors...and blown 18 saves.

In other words, he saves a little less than two-thirds of all possible saves.

In other words, he makes Armando Benitez look like Mariano Rivera.

WE GOT MCCUTCHEON.

COMPARED TO SHANE ROBINSON, HE'S BABE RUTH.

WHAT A FUCKING DISASTER TONIGHT WAS.

CRUSHING.

DEVASTATING.

....AND THE DOUCHE SOX CAME BACK AGAIN.

SIGH....(DEEP ONE).

Every time I think we're hitting rock bottom...

What did they give up for McCutcheon?

And does anybody have an explanation for why we didn't sign Austin Jackson when the Giants let him go at the end of July?

This guys been hitting .319 for the Mets, and was always a terrific defender. How can Coops have possibly passed on him with Shane Robinson as an alternative?

Here's what they gave up for McCutcheon, in part:

Couldn't they have waited a week or two to see how Clint Frazier's rehab stint went?

I hate Boone and his cluelessness I hate Rothschild pasty face...I hate Ice cream sandwiches...

I hate the royals for breaking Judge's wrist....the little life that remained after Toe's first deployment went out that day and has not returned.

It feels like Didi's been gone all yr and its only been two weeks..it's been 3 months of Bird watching and he fuckin sucks and has wore out his welcome yet our Moronic coach thinks its a good idea to keep putting him in.

Our 2bmen needs to be sent to Larry Bowa's Fielding concentration camp.

I hate when Gardner's up with men on base. I hate Gary Sanchez syndrome that affected this whole damn team out Struttin his stuff and jogging to fisrt like he's actually accomplished something.

I hate that no matter what I can't completely break myself away from watch this wretched team no matter how much they piss me off

This team needs to lose as many games as possible so this whole fucking team BLOWS THE HELL UP..

Joe F., I know exactly how you feel.

In last night's post-game yammering to the media, Betances actually said, "You don't want to give it up. It sucks, but it's baseball. You've got to try to do the best to correct the mistakes you made and be better the next time you're out there."

Yeah - it's just baseball. And yeah - it sucks like it hasn't sucked in decades.

But how the fuck can you assume that you're ever going out there again after the unbelievable display of your idiocy and ineptitude last night?

Oh, I see: you're going to correct your mistakes. After you've figured out the magic spell for self-correction, can you please pass it on to Cashman?
