"Let the river run/ Let All the dreamers/ Wake the Nation!"

Whoomp, there it is!!

Wins number 81 and 82!!

That clinches winning season number 94 for your New York Yankees, putting them just 1 behind the 95 run up by the New York-San Francisco Giants.  And besides being no good, dirty rotten city jumpers, the Giants had 20 seasons on our guys.

That's right:  in 116 major-league seasons, the Yankees have gone 94-21-1—94 winning seasons, and 1 exactly at .500.

Plus 10 of those losing seasons (and the even-Steven one) came between 1903-1918, the first 16 seasons of the franchise.  In the hundred seasons since then, they have gone 89-11 in winning seasons, and 2018 makes their 26th winning season in a row.

Something truly marvelous.

They can go home now.

Hoss, you know that I adore you. But ... winning seasons? Is that how we measure success as Yankee fans? I thought it was championships. What has Cashman wrought? What have we become?

We're only 7 games out, and 6 in the all-important loss column.

The subs and rookies are a plucky bunch.

The key isn't how well NYYs are playing against the dreck of the AL.

Boston Red Sox 4W, 6L in their last 10 games. I admit, I didn't think it would happen.

But i sure as heck hope it continues!

Warbler, I adore you right back. But you gotta take the accomplishments where you can get them!

My expectations have been lowered steadily since this season began. They descended in this order:

—One of the greatest teams! Ever!

—A World Series title!

—A division championship, and another good run in the playoffs.

—A Wild Card win, followed by a sneaky good series or two in October.

—A team well set up for its young stars to shine in the future.

—Getting out of this season without being humiliated by the Red Sox again.

That's where I'm currently at, with side hopes that somebody knocks the Sox off.

Joe FOB and John M., I'm all for bottom-feeding. It's what winning teams do.

But I still think this team is an illusion, and as some of us have said, I refuse to be sucked back in, at least not until I see some definitive proof of life, such as a drubbing of the Boston team.

Exactly Hoss, you didn't see the 1927 Yankees or the 1998 Yankees or the 1947 or 1961 Yankees feeling embarrassed or sad about destroying the bottom feeders. Properly prepared, bottom feeders are tasty and nutritious!

Tampa up 5-0 (3rd) right now vs The Evil Sox (Eovaldi pitching).

If the Rays hold on and win, they are 6-3 in their last 9 games vs. Sox and NYYs.

A point to remember: The AL East (minus Orioles right now) isn't just 2 teams.

Another point: If today's results = Sox loss + Yankees win -- big ifs, even right now -- the loss-column lead is down to 5 games. Which amazes me, even if don't amaze youse guys.

Joe FoB, I too am amazed. And I lived through 1978 as a young teenager. Of course, those Yankees 40 or 41 and 10 down the stretch. Playing .800 ball for close to two months will let you make up ground no matter how the other teams are playing.
