The throw hits the runnner!

I still don't like Torre and now I feel bad for Al Leiter. I always liked Sojo, but poor Al.

I liked Leiter, too. But he was betrayed by his manager. At 141 pitches, you are not the same pitcher you were. But Valentine really really really wanted to start the next half-inning with a pinch-hitter for him, so in he stayed.

When you're doing that in mid-season, it's one thing. You can't do it in the Series.

Good at-bat by Sojo, though.

Also, Piazza being a poor defensive catcher, he's in the wrong place on the throw home.

It's actually a helluva throw by Payton—but Piazza is back behind the line, not blocking the plate. It cost the Mets another run.

I remember thinking at the time that I thought he'd really got into one off Rivera. I've never been so glad as to see Bernie pull up, looking for the ball.

Boy, if you'd told me at the time that would win just 1 more in the next 20 years, I would never have believed you.

Also, love how McCarver is so anti-Yankees that he accidentally ascribes the two runs to the Mets. Pretty funny.
