Yanks beat Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim in ungodly hour: 10 quick takeaways

1. Aaron Judge goes 1-for-2, leaving BA at .398. He no longer leads MLB in RBIs, tied for third behind - gulp, among others - Rafael Devers.

2. Ryan Yarbrough, the surprise pitcher in all of baseball, continues to deal.  Six innings, 7 Ks, one earned run.

3. He's 33 and already has thrown more innings (35) than last year (31.) In 2021, he pitched 155 for Tampa.

4. Anthony Volpe with the big hit, a bases clearing double. He has 31 RBIs, tied for 27th, just two less than Ohtani.

5. Luke Weaver again toiling in the ninth. No runs, but a hit and a walk. Guy needs a rest, Boone.

6. Nothing from the bottom of the lineup. Vivas and Peraza both squandering great opportunities. (Chisholm to start rehab maybe next week.)

7. Both Trent Grisham (.255) and Ben Rice (.244) steadily declining BAs. Should they bat one and two?

8. Bellinger, at .268, could soon be officially having a great season. (32 RBIs, he's ahead of Mookie Betts.)

9. Rodon tonight. Is 2.88 ERA for real?

10. Yanks 2024 season still haunts. Last year, had a great month of May, then played around .500 for the rest of the year, before crapping the bed in WS.

Good thing we're getting back guys who helped us achieve mediocrity for four months last year. Add Boone into the mix and we're still catchable.

Too bad that Anthony Fremont isn't a visitor to this blog. We wouldn't have to worry about our GM any longer. Ditto a certain politician.

Boone is a Professional Idiot.

Boone could not even give a coherent reply on YES as to why he had Weaver in again. Granted, I want him to nail down wins with our closer whenever possible. But he has to pay attention to declining performances.

So he needs to purchase a mirror?

I think we all should be concerned with the holes in this lineup. The bottom third of the order is awful night after night.

Is it me, or is boone actually getting worse?

Saw that Hoss…mush mouth nothing comment that would make a politician blush.

It is not you

+1 for AA

Can Boone get worse? That would be an achievement of sorts.

Boone can get worse. He probably has. He certainly isn't getting better.

The answer is no, particularly for Grishom. An even more important question, why did the buffoon manager use Weaver in a non save situation?

I'm afraid of the answer I came up with for the Weaver question. I hope it's not true. It's too horrible. It has tremendous explanatory power, and is perfectly consistent with Cashman's Yankees....dishonesty, talent mismanagement, self-sabotage. But I hate to even think it. Nevertheless...Weaver's being overused to justify returning Willuams to the closer role. They're paying Williams to close. He'll close, goddamnit. Given how bad he's been, they can't justify using him in that role. Only when no other option exists can they put Williams back in the closer role. No one will second guess them then. So, overuse Weaver until his results tank incredibly, or he gets hurt. Whichever comes first. Then, back to the Airbender and nobody questions the move.

Every May and June, we ride high. Then the toilet starts to overflow a bit in Early July by August we are standing on the ledge, getting ready to jump while simultaneously shooting ourselves in the head. Nothing ever changes under Cashman. I’d love to be wrong this year.

Publius, that is all too possible.

Not to worry, folks. "The Athletic" has our lads ranked number ONE! Respect their authority, lol!

Are we using this as the game thread?

Rodon is going to spaz out.

The dreaded bottom of the ninth is upon us.

Put Williams back in the 9th and he serves up a meatball.

Williams choking it away

Are we gonna lose this fucking thing?

Feelin alright? Not feeling so good myself...

Too fucking close. Williams has no confidence in his fastball.

Hello?...Hello?...Is anybody still there?...We've been all but wiped out, but...the Yankees...w...w...i...n. Th-uh-uh-uh...ohhh...

BTR999 said...

Half-surprised shit for brains didn’t bring Weaver in again.

BTR999 said...

As always, I take the win, perfect or imperfect.

Yoan Moncada. Slowly he turned on Williams' slow pitch...and hits it out. Oh my goodness. Even a slightly better team would have taken that game from The Airbender. d'Arnaud hits a ball to the warning track in center. Rengifo fails to take second on that hit, which he probably should have, then the Angels don't run him, which they definitely should have.

Hate to criticize Volpe, who's having one of his good streaks. But that grounder almost certainly should've been Peraza's ball; only DJ's great stretch pulled that play out. And then the pinch hitter swinging at a 3-0 pitch that was going to be ball four...

To wit: Boone is a Professional Idiot.

...But 999 is right: a win is a win is a win. And in a way, kinda great we could take this with just Rice, Peraza, and Volpe producing. A terrific game by Rodon, too, I gotta admit.

Hey, we'll take it. But the Airbender...I dunno.

Hoss, I love to criticize L'il Tony. I'm sick of staring at his stupid mug.
