Fantasy League

NEW YORK — In an optimistic tune-up for the playoffs, Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens pitched a five-inning simulated game Monday, giving up only 2 runs on five hits, as coaches and managers looked on.

To maximize realism, Clemens gave way in the sixth to pitchers Brian Bruney, Sean Henn and Edwar Ramirez, who yielded 11 runs on 24 hits, giving the Imaginary Indians a tough 13-12 victory.

For the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez went 4-4 with two home runs and a double.

Dear El Duque,

You neglected to mention that Roger came through the simulated, pretend game of whiffle ball with no new injuries.

His elbow continues to bend as far as 15 degrees when he delivers a pitch, his bunion is stable, the hammy barked only a tweak's worth, and his scapulas are unharmed.

He is ready to go at $25,404 per pitch, assuming he gives us 5 innings and 102 curve balls.
