Something in the Wind

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Yesterday's Durham (NC) Herald-Sun

Let me first say that I am not a Yankees fan, but it would be an awful decision if Joe Torre gets fired as the Yankees manager.

He has been the Yankees manager for 12 years and they have made the playoffs all 12 years. He has also led the Yankees to four World Series titles.

With the amount of money that George Steinbrenner has put into his players and his team, there is no reason why they shouldn't win the World Series every year. However, I fail to see how this is Joe Torre's fault. It's not like he benched their star players or anything. He put all of their guys out there and they just couldn't win the game. Is it Joe Torre's fault that the team couldn't hit the ball well or that captain Derek Jeter hit into three double plays in their Game 4 loss?

There is only so much a manager can do for his team. He cannot go out there and hit a home run for his team, all he can do is put a line up out there to give his team the best chance to win. Joe Torre is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and with all the changes the Yankees need to make he should be the last one to go.
