AA: If I had your skills I would have slapped a NYY logo on the ship

Kay: "And here's tonight's Yankee defense..." He should add, "Such as it is."

There’s the left field answer - have Judge catch all the balls hit there….

Doug K. said...

Yes.

Blown away by Burnes

Doug K. said...

Stanton!

27!

The Athletics had close to 50,000 at the park today for their final game in Oakland— which doubled their season attendance, I believe

JM said...

Lol!! Funny because it's true.

Cole is dealing. Stanton, that worthless, lousy waste of....oh, wait.

Hinkey Haines said...

I just tuned in. Why was Burnes pulled? 9ks & only 69 pitches - was he hurt?

JM said...

So Robby Cano hit .446 in the Mexican League. I'm thinking the pitching there is a little easier than MLB. Just a guess.

JM said...

Same here, Hinkey. Just got here.

JM said...

Stanton again!!!! 3 run double!!!!

Hinkey Haines said...

Nice time for Stanton to show up, huh?

AboveAverage said...

He’ll likely go away again

JM said...

Rizzo!! Nice.

AboveAverage said...

Yay Rizzo

Hinkey Haines said...

And now Rizzo?!? Wow.

JM said...

They all do. Him, Judge, Soto, Wells... they do great, then they do not so great. Slumps galore this year.

Pocono Steve said...

This is better than the last two nights.

JM said...

Finally, the correct use of Vertigo. Defensive replacement.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Ca$hole is going to give Glassman an extension now.

BernBabyBern said...

Stanton gets a key hit in a close game and the Athletics get a sellout on the same day.

It’s like spotting Bigfoot on the same day you saw a unicorn.

JM said...

Ace acting scry.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Flopsie is a fucking defensive replacement?

This team's management just fucking sucks horse cock.

(retro insult from 10th grade)

He's definitely better than Jasson.

Acey

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I still feel bad about Oakland being screwed out of baseball.

And I'm not a fan of the city, but they've been screwed.

BernBabyBern said...

And you know, Gerrit Cole is a pretty good pitcher when he doesn’t intentionally walk people with the bases empty.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Is Grisham hurt?

Asking for a fren'

BTR999 said...

Can taste that title! Or is it this pumpkin ale?

BernBabyBern said...

Rufus, I’m amazed that ANY Athletics fans actually went to games the way they’ve been treated by that club. And I can’t wait to see the “No City” A’s play in a mostly empty minor-league stadium the next few years. What an embarrassment that will be for baseball.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

4 more years. 40M+ per.

JM said...

58!!!!

Hinkey Haines said...

What’s that, 5 games in row?

JM said...

I enjoy his meaningless home runs. Every one.

JM said...

Yep

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Hopefully they rip up the field, the seats, the turnstiles, the mound, the bases when they leave the park.

I only seems fair.

JM said...

Finally, the correct use of Holmes. Mop up

BTR999 said...

Holmes entrusted with a 9 run lead

Hinkey Haines said...

We’re about to find out if this lead is Holmes-proof.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Do they have enough runs to win????

ranger_lp said...

For once I can say they have enough runs…

Hinkey Haines said...

Geez, you’d think that no one on this blog trusts Holmes.

JM said...

Verdugo? Really?

Hinkey Haines said...

Verdugo is CLUTCH.

The U.S. Navy, along with its shipbuilders and their thousands of specialty suppliers, need more than 100,000 workers to help build attack and ballistic missile submarines over the coming decade. That’s according to BuildSubmarines.com, whose ubiquitous ads you may have seen during reality TV shows, on NASCAR hoods, at WNBA games, and amid Major League Baseball broadcasts.

JM said...

I thought it was an ad for Jersey Mike's.

Hinkey Haines said...

According to John & Suzyn, El Duque is at the game. They didn’t say which one…

Bern - As a three time Sacramentan I can assure you that they will sell out every game. Sacramento is actually a great sports town. The Kings sell out all the time and their soccer team sells out as well. They keep coming in second for a major league soccr franchise. The team won the US Open a couple of years ago. (or came in second - I don't follow soccer)

The former Ralley Field sits around 10K and is a good place to watch a game. They will double the seats and sell every one of them.

ranger_lp said...

They had him on camera briefly…

JM said...

A nice, clean inning would have been nice.

ranger_lp said...

Yankees Win!!!

JM said...

Division champs.

Hinkey Haines said...

That was a big Yankee win.

JM said...

Every win is a big Yankees win, Hinkey.

JM said...

I can't count how many games we lost this year due to Boone. They won this in spite of him, not in any way because of him.

BernBabyBern said...

Doug, I’ll admit I was skeptical about how well the A’s would draw in Sacramento because 1. They won’t even use the city they are playing in as part of the team name. They’re just going to be “The Athletics” … 2. They are leaving in a couple years… and 3. They still are going to stink, because I’m guessing they aren’t going to spend ANY money or effort into being a decent team until they get into Vegas.

If Sacramento fills that park under those circumstances, the Marlins or Rays should move there.

BTR999 said...

Happy Division Championship!! Thanks all for helping to keep me sane this season

Rufus T. Firefly said...

JM,

I was one of those unclear nuclear sub-humans a long time ago.

They laid everyone off in the 90's, cutting all of the younger workers. Then the remaining people got as old as me and retired.

Now they need workers again. SURPRISE!

I actually did like working on the subs, but not the bureaucracy. And it got me to Hawaii, so I can't biotch too much about them.

But, like any large operation, they can really fuck up the works.

(looking at you, HAL!)

Rufus T. Firefly said...

So you're the sane one here? What an oddball!

Doug K. said...

Bern - Sacramento is a strange place. It has a serious inferiority complex. It wants to be World Class which is ridiculous. When people think of CA there's LA, SF, and SD. Then there is Palm Springs and Lake Tahoe. No one says, "I'm going to CA, I can't wait to see Sacramento.'

Consequently, Sacramento's citizens strive for relevance. That manifests as showing massive support for every institution that has any cache.

Having a MLB team play there , a chance to see the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants, etc. play in our city will bring out locals in large numbers. It's a matter of civic pride. And, if there is one thing that Sacramentans posses, it's civic pride.

AboveAverage said...

Agreed Doug - ALSO - Better than playing in Bakersfield

HoraceClarke66 said...

Missed the game—had a gig up in Stamford, where I've only been a time or two, many years ago. Looking outside the library auditorium where I did my powerpoint, I saw this stunningly weird, ugly building—classic 1970s design.

I said, "What building is that?" And was told: "Oh, that's the one Brian Cashman rappels down at Christmas."

An omen? Or just plain stupid?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Doug, supposedly the Sacramento park will hold 14,000—and there may not be any day games.

The Marlins got their gaudy new park a few years ago. Tampa Bay supposedly has their brand-new, 27,000 indoor playground for the richest Rays fans, ready to go. Not sure who that leaves to move out there...but chances are, someone will be threatening to do so within a couple years.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Nice win, guys. I give us all the credit, but will gladly distribute the blame amongst Hal, Pal, Boone, Gleyber, etc.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

AA, I'll remind you of the wisdom of the great Buck Owens:

"Hey, you don't know me, but you don't like me
You say you care less how I feel
But how many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?"
