Had to miss the game, but glad to see. Every Yankees win...etc. And—the Tigers won. I think we can safely put a fork in the Birds. Also, 120 losses for the Pale Hose. So glad we have parity.
JM—great point about Boone "joining" the 600 club. And thanks for keeping us up to date on all those guys in Dunder Mifflin Land. Inexplicable how Cashman can be keeping Effross down there in favor of Clay Pigeon.
He was talking baseball with Dave Stewart. They were discussing the players and the plays. They seemed close. Ricky went off on Jazz running on contact. Pointing out (correctly) that he should have hesitated until the player committed to getting the runner out at first and then broke for the plate only if he felt that he could make it. Dave Stewart was in complete agreement, felt it wasted a scoring opportunity . Next time Soto came to the plate that started talking positively about his game and how good a player he was. It was almost more interesting listening to them than watching what was taking place on the field . . .
Glad to see you guys aren't whooping it up. Tempting the wrath and all that. Can't have that.
From ESPN, here's proof that there's no need to be crowing about a good season when the relief arms are exploding right and left:
Yankees: RHP Jake Cousins (right pec strain) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Yankees manager Aaron Boone is hopeful that the reliever can return for the postseason, but is scheduled to see team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad on Monday. ... RHP Lou Trivino (right elbow), who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, has been shut down from his minor league rehab assignment, Boone said.
DUDE! You got to listen in on two guys like that!? You could get a book deal! Seriously though, yeah, I think that there conversation would be more interesting than the game. I never could get a sense of Henderson's intellect, not living in NYC. The quotes that I've seen have made him out to be an egocentric dumbass. And Stewart came across as both oppressed and the smartest man in the room. But the media...
This team is going to have a much better season, overall, than I would have thought. I pegged them for 91 wins but I thought I was a bit high. Now we look forward to the playoffs, and man there are a lot of pitching staffs which are shredded to hell. The best staff (or is that "staph") in the Majors is the Mariners and it looks like they aren't going to get in. Thankfully.
Kevin - it was very surprising. And captivating. It also helped that they were but a mere couple of feet away from me, so I could hear everything. Any Ricky dumbasary was absent in their conversation. They also were spot on with their assessments. They rejected no one who came up for an autograph or a selfie. They embraced it and actually discussed it as one of the more important contributions that they could do to help make the modern baseball fans happy. Especially the children. I was surprised and impressed.
Especially when few of the Yankees players were signing or posing fort he kids. Cole, Rizzo, Judge, Jazz, Stanton, Cortes, Gleyber, Verdugo, (didn't see the Martian) avoided mostly everyone. I chatted with Jeff Nelson for a minute - he was great. Michael Kay seem exhausted and somewhat distant and had super white sneaks on which didn't match up well with the suit he was wearing (maybe he forgo to pack his shoes). Clay Holmes was a gentle, relaxed and generous guy. He tried to sign for everyone. Interesting

Three touchdowns for the Football Giants?
HereWego
Was it the equinox?
Rickey Henderson is at the game. In the third person.
Nice Martian rocket.
And Judge.
Ricky is right behind me - sitting with Dave Stewart
Going on contact assininity.
He's probably ready to suit up.
So stupid.
Wtf is up with Gleyber? Sucks all year and suddenly he's an All Star. How does that work?
JM, he just found out it’s a contract year.
Boy, that Stanton really sucks.
Lol!
Holmes!!!!!
(Ricky had a great sense of humor
Shit
Holmes!!!!!! Why??????
leave him OFF the playoff roster
Why is Verdugo in?
Boone is “managing.”
God help us.
Another intentional walk of Stanton.
At least he yanked Holmes as soon as he could. Small favors. Never should've brought him in to start with.
Verdugo waste of an at bat. Fucking Boone.
Thuuuuuuuuh Yankees win
Decided lack of enthusiasm here.

Was Ricky rooting for the Yankees or the A's?
Or just Ricky?

Good thing we DFA’d Marinaccio
"The Holmes"
Hello Commentariat from Tokyo! I'm 13 hours ahead on NY time. Just got the game recap.

I couldn't understand the timing of that DFA either. But I'm not watching him pitch in the minors, for what THAT is worth....

That has been my thought. He knows that Cashman is so stupid that it will only take a couple weeks of production to get a fat contract.
