IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!

Sign our petition!

TELL THE WORLD...

"On Oct. 21, several hours before the Cleveland Indians were to play the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, a media account identified Indians pitcher Paul Byrd as having purchased $25,000 of the illegal substance, Human Growth Hormone.

"The source of the leak had to be someone within the ongoing probe of Major League Baseball headed by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell. Mitchell is a member of the Boston Red Sox board of directors and a well-known, diehard Red Sox fan.

"That his probe would leak the name of a player who might be pitching against the Red Sox that day -- by far, the biggest game of the season -- suggests a calculated attempt to destroy the focus of the player and his team.

"Throughout the Mitchell probe, leaks about players from the Yankees, Indians, Giants and other MLB organizations repeatedly have occurred. Despite their rampant success, no Red Sox players have been identified.

"THIS IS A CANCER UPON THE GAME OF BASEBALL!

"Commissioner Selig should appoint an investigator to determine the source of the Mitchell Probe leaks. And if it is shown that Mitchell or one of his aides is the source, the Red Sox victory over the Indians -- and its American League East pennant -- should forever be noted WITH THE PRESENCE OF AN ASTERISK."

THE TIME HAS COME TO TAKE A STAND. WE CANNOT SIT BACK AND WATCH THE CORRUPTION CONTINUE.

INVESTIGATE MITCHELLGATE NOW.

Thanks for getting on this petition so quick, Duque.

My only gripe with the petition is that it doesn't go far enough ... an asterisk alone is insufficient. Lets them off too easy. No, the AL Championship should be stripped from the Red Sox. Get the Indians back together and let them play the Rockies for the title. Or else just declare Colorado the champs. Whatever. Letting Mitchell's Fenway Frauds suit up and play the World Series would be a stain and a disgrace on our national game - and on America.

This is Black Sox II. In fact, it's worse than the first Black Sox scandal. That was just the players cheating. This is corruption at the highest levels of the sport.

Tell your friends. Have them tell their friends. And so on. And so on (like that old shampoo commercial). People who care about the sanctity of the great game of baseball have no choice. Sign the petition.

Bern,

You're right, of course. But we've got to crawl before we can walk.

Let's get this asterisk under our belt, then go for the knockout:

REPEAL OF 07 PENNANT.
DISQUALIFICATION FROM AL IN 08.
MLB PROBATION FOR FIVE YEARS. (NO POST-SEASON)

Also: reparations in the form of human fines. Manny to Cleveland, Ortiz to Seattle, Beckett & Papelbon to the Yankees, Schilling to Fox News, Pedroia to the cast of "Prison Break."

In a gesture of mercy, MLB lets them keep Lugo.

Byrd wasn't scheduled to pitch in game 7. Stop your crying.

No, he wasn't scheduled to pitch. But in a pull-out-all-the-stops, do-or-die seventh game, certainly he could have.

That is not the point, however. It is the obvious distraction - a controversy swirling around a clubhouse the day of a deciding game, one serious enough to have a devastating effect on a team's psyche. The team was doomed, then pennant lost, before the first pitch was thrown.

If that was the plan - and the situation certainly seems to have the ugly, unmistakable odor of foul play to it - then this is truly the darkest hour for our National Pastime. The dreams of our country's children will be shattered. And there should be hell to pay.

Pete Rose was never was able to affect the other team in such a heinous and diabolical way ... and he is banned from the game for life.

While I agree that this report will be 100% tainted by the fact that the investigator is a boardmember with the Red Sox (how could this have happened?), I am firmly against awarding my city (Cleveland) a piece of lazy scum like Manny Ramirez. I know of nobody in this city (at the moment) more hated than big fat man ram.

Pathetic. Not them. You. Why don't you call Oliver Stone while you're at it.

So... if George Mitchell's investigation dug up that Paul Byrd was using HGH, why on Earth would it be announced before a game 7 that might not have even happened, instead of before Byrd's start earlier in the series? Because that would make too much sense?

Mitchell is a douche and his investigation and bias towards the sox won't help baseball. But nut jobs who believe this was a specifically timed, strategic leak, are about as mentally retarded as the 9/11 conspiracy theorists.
