John may have started something new with his home run call for Curtis Granderson: "Something sort of Grandish," a reference to a show tune from the 1947 musical Finian's Rainbow.
Imagine the home run calls:
Robbie Cano: "HELLO, ROBBIE. THIS IS JOHN, ROBBIE. IT'S SO NICE TO HAVE YOU BACK WHERE YOU BELONG."
Arod: "ONCE IN LOVE WITH A-ROD... ALWAYS IN LOVE WITH A-ROD..."
Derek Jeter: "JETERS... JETERS WHO NEED JETERS... ARE THE LUCKIEST JETERS... IN THE WORRRRRLD...."
Nick Swisher: "IF I WERE A SWISH MAN, ALL DAY LONG I'D BIDDY-BIDDY BUM..."
Mark Teixeira: "TEIXEIRA... I JUST MET A BOY NAMED TEIXEIRA... AND SUDDENLY THAT NAME WILL NEVER BE THE SAME TO MEEEEE..."
Jorge Posada: "ON A JORGE... RISE AND LOOK AROUND YOU... AND YOU'LL SEE WHO... YOU ARRRRRE... ON A JORGE, HOW IT WILL ASTOUND YOU... THAT THE GLOW OF YOUR LIVING OUTSHINNNNES EVERY STAR..."
Randy Wynn: "OOOOOOOKLAHOMA... RANDY WYNNN COMES MARCHING DOWN THE PLAINS.."

NY Magazine is running a series of articles on the voice.
Ok. Didn't read it first, and didn't realize you guys knew about it last year. Sorry, my mistake.
Not at all, GWC3. You reminded me to check it out again.
Now that NY Magazine takes us seriously, when will other institutions follow suit? Dying to her from you, John D. & Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation!
Cool, but if John knew Finian's Rainbow, I bet he could come up with much more obscure show tunes for the other players.
He wouldn't get to use those last two very often.
I'm extraordinarily depressed after that first loss.
Is it my new meds, or are the rest of you feeling that way, too?
Hey, I mentioned your site last night!
