Is Mauer in the Hall because he played consistently throughout his career? Because Donnie had a bad back? Because the HOF won't accommodate any more Yankees with a mustache?
Or is it just because HE WAS A YANKEE?
Ya gotta wonder. This is getting some play on the twittex.

Position. A catcher hitting like Mauer is so much more valuable than a 1st baseman hitting lije Donnie.
I'm not endorsing it. Not at all. But it's the only possible explanation. (besides anti-Yankee bias, of course)
Agreed with Publius. A true hit first C is a rarity, but let me point out that Mauer played as many games at 1B / DH as he did behind the plate. Mattinlgly was almost exclusively a 1B. (source is baseball-reference.com). The stats are similar, so it must be the position, since the only other explanation would be bias against the player (not bloody likely) or the team.
The HOF is neither a fair nor credible measuring stick of true baseball greatness. (source: Me!)
Roger Maris is not in the Hall.
Thurman Munson. Ron Guidry. Bernie Williams. Craig Nettles. Willie Randolph.
Those great Yankee teams of our past? Must have dreamed them.
The last year Mauer was a full-time catcher was 2010 when he caught 112 games. In his remaining eight years, he was primarily a 1B/DH. He caught 72 games in 2013; the last five years of his career he caught exactly one game.
If Mauer belongs, so does Mattingly. And I have my doubts that either of them belong.
The Hall of Fame is becoming the Hall of Almost Famous Players.
What about Munson? He was 10 times the player Mauer. He just was a shitty pilot
The HOF is getting to be like the hollywood walk of fame.
Just pay the admission fee, and you're in.
That is, unless you're a former Yankee.
By the look of things, Mattingly didn't steal enough bases...
On a different subject...
The Twins claimed Bubba Thompson off of waivers...
