The end of 2024 is in sight, and however horrific is turns out to be, we will have our beloved sports voices calling plays, as the ship submerges, and the waters converge overhead.
Moral from Saturday's victory over our friends, the Cubs, (who throughout history have never hurt us): When our pitchers hurl a complete game shutout, we probably will win.
So, we're back in first, jockeying like pollsters in the Presidential race. Honestly? I dunno what to think. But if Gerrit Cole can't shut down an offense that's clearly in the dumpster, maybe we have no ace, as we have no closer. And if you replace the 9th hitter with Jasson Dominguez, who led Scranton to a 19-0 bombing of the Syracuse Mets last night, you've got at the least an energy boost.
One thing about this team: When it wins, it looks unstoppable. And when it loses, it looks horrible. Soon, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto will start hitting. That should carry us through the middle of the month, past Boston and into Voldemort. We have three against the O's, in our house. By then, I suspect The Master will be back, and our booths will be harmonious. Or maybe we'll just go on a losing streak and erase whatever hope we foolishly foresaw. I dunno anymore. This team has broken me.

For those of you who didn't see the make up video...here it is...

And Frank Pellegrino on X added this...
So not only did Kay and Flaherty have to pretend to be buds and “hug it out” on camera;
But the YES network uploaded this clip to show the world that everything’s fine, only to DELETE IT 20 minutes later.
Is there trouble in Yankee broadcast paradise? Why delete the clip?
It looked like the wind knocked down two potential Judge HRs yesterday. Those were good swings so it looks like he's close to coming out of his slump. OMG I sound like Boone! KMN.
This is the clip they deleted...

I think they should rename the franchise the New York Ptolemies, or maybe the New York Tutankhamens, as in, they are the unrivaled kings of denial.
We'd rather finish second than spend a dollar more? Key injury? Bad trade? The Red Sock we picked up to play left really stinks? (Looking at you, Flopsie.) Nahh. Never happened, don't know anything about it, who ya gonna believe, us or your cheatin' eyes?
The bottom line was that, no matter what their problems out of the booth, the weird little contretemps between Flash and Kay yesterday was incredibly unprofessional—just as refusing to put the best lineup out there every day, and playing second base as if you're in a fog, and devoting every waking moment of your life to trying to prove, first and foremost, that you are a genius, is unprofessional.
The Yankees, in their long and storied history, have been owned and run by much worse people than Hal & Pal. But almost never by any who were less professional, and that is a code of conduct that inevitably leaches down to the dugout and the field.
Knowing The Master(and Suzy’s) background- and if it weren’t Jolson- the only call it could be is “the Jazz Dinger”
Good one.
IT'S A JAZZ DINGER!! [The Master then sings a jaunty ditty]
Wezil, excellent. Yeah, but the blackface thing...
Does anyone here care about the Kay-Flaherty thing? I missed the "fight" so I have no opinion. John and Suzyn I care about, Suzyn I care about, but anything involving Kay isn't worth the emotional energy.
Oh, and, just for the record: Hal sucks, but looks like he's doing well on his medication; Boone is terrible, but also in a terrible spot, which compounds the problem; Cashman is fantastically inept and egocentric, no doubt constantly trying to prove himself because he's well aware that the team he inherited was great and that he could never have built anything like it; the stat guys are goofballs, but are committed to their point of view and sincere--while often being wrong when their computations face the real world.
That about covers it, I guess. Giants on today at 1 against the Vikings. A toss up. Might be a good game.
I prefer the Mr. T angle: "He's on the Jazz!"
Sterling has already said he would do something related to the musical "Chicago" and the song "All That Jazz." But you can't predict baseball calls.
On a happier note --
If there's a thermonuclear war between now and the fifth inning of today's game, I win the preseason prediction!
“Duck and Cover” does somewhat adequately sum up our defense . . . 📺
I'll have to move a bunch of stuff so I can get under my desk.
Don't forget to put your hands over the back of your neck so the flying glass doesn't shred your spinal column and cartoid!

skip to 11:20 point, JM - then watch the entire piece remembering to switch the pb quality to 1080
to clarify - watch starting at the 11:20 point ("this is what flying glass can do to a pumpkin") then watch it from the beginning.
This is neither a moment or a movement. It's a bowel moment.
Yeah, I don't think our hands are going to help there.
