A glitch in the abdominal matrix. A hitch where he shoulda hatched. It looked awkward, not right.
He shrugged it off, belted a double and slid headfirst into 3rd on an error. He high-fived the coach and slapped the dirt off his jersey, then acknowledged the trainer.
We know what happened next: For Chisholm, nothing. The scanner goons found a tweaked oblique, and - until last night - Chisholm had been disappeared, his .181 batting average waiting to greet him on the Jumbotron.
We know what happened last night. His late-inning HR broke the 1-1 tie and so unnerved Cleveland's pitcher that he delivered a roundhouse meatball to Anthony Volpe. Solo shots - the '25 Yankees' signature move.
Since Chisholm went out, the Yankee infield has been so doddering that Jake Tapper should write a book about it. But not last night. Jazz went 2-3. Next time he strides to the plate, that average will be .194. He'll play 3B until the Yankees punt on DJ LeMahieu - (1-3 last night with an RBI, now hitting .245) - which, fingers crossed, won't be this year.
The Yankees love to pretend that home plate in their namesake stadium is where Lou Gehrig once proclaimed himself "the luckiest man on the face of the earth." In fact, they ripped that ballpark - the House that Ruth built - to the ground and sold it off in plastic-wrapped chunks. You can talk about the great moments in Yankee history, but most of them happened on the hallowed grounds a few blocks away.
Last night, Chisholm could have called himself "the happiest man on the face of the earth." The game won't become a YES Classic, unless Jazz eventually does something to provide context, to make history. Last night might be his first step on the road back, right? Or just another win over Cleveland.
We are now 7 up on Tampa, which is a meager 2 games above .500. Boston - red-eyed and as hateful as ever - is coming this weekend. Wouldn't it be nice if the Jazz and DJ Show continues?

I have been critical of Jzzz this season, with his swing-for-the-seats approach and his all-around occasional boneheadedness but I love his enthusiasm. He's like a little kid sometimes.
Diggin' Devin on the other hand dug himself another hole last night, managed to climb out of it, but holy hell, 30 pitches! And it's not that he struggled with control - 22 of those 30 were strikes. I don't think he got off to a slow start this season; I think this is who he is - a shitty middle-innings reliever who should be nowhere near the 9th inning in a close game. Of course I'm no bald genius so what do I know.
From the Daily News
"The organization’s focus remains winning a championship. And while they’re thankful to Thibodeau for building the foundation for contention at Madison Square Garden, team president Leon Rose ultimately believed a new voice was needed in the locker room — and had the backing of owner James Dolan to make the move."
First off, thank you to Tibs . He did a great job. I haven't enjoyed the Knicks for a VERY long time but he was not going to get them to the mountaintop.
Here in Yankeeland we have a manager who also is not capable of winning it all.
The difference is our GM, who makes mistakes, as did Leon Rose, and has a perpetual contender, will not do the obvious thing and get rid of a manager who, not only doesn't have what it takes to win it all, but actually impedes the possibility.
As the first line said, ""The (Knicks) organization’s focus remains winning a championship." Here, not so much.
Do we have to stop calling him "The Rodent" now?
As a whole, the offense is a hole.
I he can hit over .270, i'll appreciate his enthusiasm a lot more.
I think he's earned a promotion to Rodan, enemy of Mothra.
Shades of Buck Showalter.
Devin is not the answer. Can't say it was a dumb trade, but thinking he was going to be 2023 or 2022 Devin was delusional.
If he can. He being Jazz.
Bad as Boone is—and he is not a good manager—this fish rots from the head. Once again, Brian "Wish-and-a-Prayer" Cashman chose not to provide the Yanks with sufficient depth, as if he expected the regular season to end sometime in May.
Sure, Clay Holmes was maybe the team's worst-ever closer last year. But re-sign him as a middle reliever or even starter, as the Mets did? Naah! What could possibly go wrong? We have plenty of arms, and they will all be healthy, all through the season.
This happens EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON.
Brian Hoch reports 2:45 pm
“ Jasson Domínguez (left thumb) remains out of the lineup. Aaron Boone said they consider him day-to-day.”
The Traitor Tracker thumbnail looks grumpier and grumpier every day!
To your point Hoss:
"Mets’ Clay Holmes hits new benchmark in longest start of career”
- headline from Yahoo Sports
His 2025 line thus far:
WAR 1.0
6-3 with a 3.07 ERA
IP 67.1
1.158 WHIP
and making 31MM
But we don’t need a guy like that.
and as an addendum to the stats on Holmes, in return for his “trade” to the Mets, the Yankees got:
NOTHING
