The election was rigged

The other day, when Miguel Andujar won AL Rookie of the Year from The Sporting News, I thought we were sensing a blue wave... midnight blue, that is! Well, as the late Stan Lee would say, "Brush my teeth and call me smiley!" I shoulda known. When it comes to the Gammonites - those dirty creeps from the Yancy Street Gang - "elections" are a sham of a scam, a fraud of a farce, a mockery of a fakery, a crock of a joke! Collusion! Witch hunt! Whatever. LOCK THEM UP!

Last night, as an ESPN barker broke into an ongoing NY Giants debacle to announce the winner - Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese Babe Ruth Miriam Adelson - my ears began to hurt. I would have had more fun listening to the Khashoggi murder tape. What a joke. I should known. It was always going to be Ohtani. They might as well have handed him the tiara and bucket of newsprint last winter, as soon as he nixed signing with the Yankees. That day, he became AL Rookie of the Year.

Listen: I'm not here to rehash the reasons why Andjuar deserved to win. The fact that he outdid Joe Dimaggio in doubles, and both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton as the best Yankee hitter in 2018 - nope, that could not overrule a guy who drove in 61 runs - eight more than Gary Sanchez! - and threw a whopping 51 innings before requiring Tommy John.

Today, the excuses making the rounds are Andujar's concrete glove and propensity to double-clutch on throws to first. As you're reading this, let's hope he's taking grounders or seeing a shrink. Same with Gleyber Torres, who I have a hard time imagining at SS for four months, considering the five errors in 15 starts he made there last year. I'm not saying Gleyber was robbed. But Miggy deserved better than a mere 5 out of 30 first-place votes.

Oh well, maybe it will remind both that post-season awards mean nothing in a wild card year.

This election was conducted by the same organization that voted against Hideki Matsui for Rookie of the Year because some writers felt his 9 years in Japan were more than being in the minors. This group did, however, think Ichiro Suzuki (8 Yrs in Japanese league), Kaz Sasaki (10 yrs), Hideo Nomo (5 yrs) and now Shohei Ohtani (5 yrs) were rookies.

I know there's always anti-Yankee prejudice at work, but this is unconscionable.

The best thing Miggy can do is put in 15 or 20 consistently great years while Ohtani is out of the game with a bad wing in five.

I shouldn't be, but I'm stunned.

I am not stunned, not surprised. Nor would any of us care one whit -- had we won the goddamn W.S.

I'd like to have a team of 25 non-rookies-of-any-year that hits to the other field, hits when it counts, scores without hitting a score of HRs, and that has starters pitching deep into games.

This award crap matters not, and you knew it.

Think about it: The only reason this "matters" to you is that your team blew in the post-season.

My team, too.

but wait! more ROY ballets were just found in the trunk of a '68 Dodge Dart somewhere in south Florida and you know sports writers are Yankees fans down there. Count every vote!!

Count the residue on the Gammonites' butts.

Measure the residue on their tongues. Whose asses have they been kissing?

The setup is not even subtle. The Yankees' official site now has a piece on who their biggest trade chip is. As we all know, it's Miggy. They also casually mention us being interested in Machado.

I will not make any threats here. My bluster means nothing to nobody. BUT, if they trade away Miggy and get Machado, you will see a lot less of me next year. I'm getting tired of this shit. I'll be a fan forever, but I'm not going to waste my life on Cashman's stupidity.

Hear, hear, 13bit!

I have mixed feelings about Manny. But if El Matador goes...I may spend the rest of my sporting life as a "supporter" of the Pigeons.

Also, shame, shame, shame on you, Duque!

How dare you even mention RBI in assessing any ballplayer! Don't you know that actually driving in runs means nothing, nothing at all!

What DOES matter is some genius figuring out how many ground balls you SHOULD get to! In comparison to a guy who barely plays the field at all.

But never mind!! Ohtani wins because he had the best sabermetrics! Starting with...not being a Yankee.

Why should Andujar be Rookie of the Year? If If he were any good he would have played in the elimination game against Boston!!!!

His own manager knew he stunk!!!

Sorry, just wanted to see what it felt like to be a troll. Not good by the way. It's really hard to be intentionally stupid with the added burden of malice. I don't know how they do it.

Hoss,

If we get Machado I think the guy in trouble might be Didi (because he's hurt and not there and SS is where Machado would go at first.) In some ways that could be worse. Imagine exchanging one of the clubhouse leaders and an "up" guy for a me firster and a sourpuss.

BTW

The Pigeons has to be one of the worst names in sports. Garbage eaters. Bottom feeders. Even the other similar species have more elan. The Pizza Rats. The Catfish.

Pigeons is another word for suckers, rubes. The NY Rubes. The NY Patsies. Terrible. Only the Tampa Tampons are worse.

Doug K. has it exactly right. no REAL ROY candidate would be benched for a washed up has-been like what's his name. (I refuse to recall his name, or put it in writing, at least.)

if anyone on this site still believes in juju, it will take YEARS for the bad juju to dissipate from that bone-headed maneuver. we will not finish above the redsocks for the duration of Judge's career. yes. it was that bad.

KD said...

and you know what? we don't DESERVE to finish above the redsocks. shit. they are so good, I might actually have to switch from the duque spelling and give them some respect. because we all know the truth: THEY are our Daddy.

OK. Here goes: Red Sox. oh, good god. it feels terrible...

KD said...

The Curse of Andujar. it will be bad enough as is; however, if Miggy is traded, it will last 100 years.

HoraceClarke66 said...

We do believe in juju we do believe in juju we do believe in juju we do believe in juju.

It's the only thing that can help us make sense of this insane world we are living in now!

Wallace Mathews with what is a pretty argument as to why El Matador should have won.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-sports-miguel-andujar-matthews-al-rookie-of-year-20181112-story.html

At the core of it? Ohtani essentially played half a season. Nearly all of it as a DH. When he wasn't pitching—which didn't last long—he never ventured onto the field.

This is a flipping joke.
