The YES Network showing a clip of the Chambliss HR in 1976 was a reminder of what an awful baseball announcer Howard Cosell was. When a dramatic moment happened, it was his cue to start shouting non-stop into the microphone. He NEVER let a moment speak for itself. He was the anti-Vin Scully. … Whenever they show the Munson funeral game, when Murcer hits the dramatic game-winner, Cosell doesn’t shut up. He was a passable boxing announcer and fit in well with the MNF circus booth, but he was unbearable on baseball broadcasts.

Yeah, but what a great toupee.

Martian singles!

One of my favorite sports quotes is from Tex Cobb after Cosell said the brutal beating Larry Holmes gave Cobb over 15 rounds led him to stop broadcasting boxing matches. “Hell, I’d go another 15 rounds if I thought it would get him off Monday Night Football.”

This Aaron Judge auction for charity they’re talking about all game is kind of crazy. Yeah, they have a lot of cool experiences, but the minimum bid on the CHEAPEST item is $2,000 bucks. This auction ain’t for upper deck or bleacher fans.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I would definitely pay $2,000 to not get thrown off the upper deck.

But that's just me.

I've never been in the Jacoby Ellsbury Memorial Hot Tub, AA, so I'm not sure. I can't find the schematics online.

Rodon pitching well enough to lose. As usual.

AboveAverage said...

How can you be so unkind and mean to idiots by calling Boone an idiot?

JM said...

Wells is really good.

AboveAverage said...

Can we agree Agree to Agree, JM?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

True dat!

Wells. Lumpy catcher with power. Big mousache. Gets dirty. Has no problem going to the opposite field to drive in runs. Has to win. Is anyone here old enough to see the resemblance?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I swear he wore 15 when I saw him in Scanton, but my program says 16. Old age or wishful thinking?
