Cal Thomas: Yankee Beat Writer

Excerpts from today's nationally syndicated column on the Yankees, titled, "We're to Blame for this Predicament:"
.
On bats vs. bullpen: "Our problem is we have more of what we don't need and less of what we do need."
.
On current team, compared to the 1990s of O'Neill, Brosius & Bernie: "Our ancestors understood sacrifice and adversity. In them it produced character and virtue. Today, the mere thought of such things breed resentment in us."
.
On A-Rod: "More things and poor relationships translate into more for self and less for others."
.
On Stubby Steinbrenner: "A changed life is good, if the old one was bad. Change back from a dollar is rare, but nice. But in order to change the direction of our (team), we need leaders who will boldly take us in a better direction."

I just saw him today, walking past me at the Miami Book air. Man, is he tall!

While I'm name-dropping... Edna Buchanan, Gen. Wesley Clark and Ralph Nader.

Is Cal angling to be Girardi's bench coach?

Be glad he is not the third base coach because he would never bring anyone home.
