For two weeks now, John, Suzie, Michael -- everybody -- has bellowed about the painful absence of the great Brian Bruney.
You'd think we lost Goose Gossage.
Late in every close game, somebody says it: If only Brian were healthy! We'd be safe with Mister 8th Inning in the pen.
OK, Bruney's a decent pitcher. We like him. We want him back. But when did they install his plaque in centerfield? His ERA this year is 3.38. He got hammered early, then threw seven solid outings --good stuff -- then got slapped around and sidelined.
If you want to be appreciated as a Yankee, get hurt. While you're gone, the announcers will induct you into Cooperstown.
"If only Damaso Marte were healthy! This is just the spot when Joe Girardi would use him! This call to the bullpen is sponsored by Prozac..."

What's sad is that no one even mentions Marte. It's as if he went back to the Pirates and no one noticed.
