Last night, the Twins outfielder twice nearly got hit by a thrown ball while running to first, nearly injuring our firstbaseman. What to make of this?
1. He runs to first on the wrong side of the basepath, as if he wants to get hit by a ball.
2. By running on the wrong side, one increases the chance of being hit, as if he -- or she -- enjoys the sensation of being hit by the ball.
3. The fascinating field of psychology tells us that some people pierce themselves, drill holes into their skulls and simply want to be hit by a thrown ball.
4. Certainly, as ethicists and bloggers, we never advocate the barbarian act of throwing of a baseball at anyone, unless they show a distinct desire to be hit by a ball.
5. In such cases, a possible remedy for the psychological need to be hit by a thrown ball would be to actually play out the fantasy... and let the patient experience the sensation of being hit by a thrown ball.
6. Sooner, rather than later.

Joba can do it.
I think Joba feels the same way. And I guess by his assessment, the simple act of having an overlarge head implies a desire to be hit (see Youkilis, Kevin).
