I have it on good authority that Nick Johnson successfully took several practice swings in his hotel suite, and reported no additional strain on his injured back.
Nick used a new gadget from Wii to simulate the swings. This new wand is lighter and more flexible than the original versions.
He selected A curve from Koufax, a fastball fom Nolan Ryan, and a knuckler from Tim Wakfield for the exercise.
He took 50 simulated swings from the comfort of his leather-lined recliner and had the following results:
1. a single to left
2. 4 walks
3. a pop-up to second
4. one hit by pitch
5. 16 foul balls
6. 4 strike-outs swinging
7. 2 strike outs looking
Nick was pretty tired after this effort but he came out to the balcony and waved, indicating that he is back on track.
We'll see him for at least one more live at bat in the coming week.
I'm 10% confident in that prediction.

A .461 OBP against great pitching.
That's why we brought him back.
