YES on Millwood; N0 on trading the kids

The Yankiverse today is wincing over the notion of signing Kevin Millwood, who may be 50, in part because it illustrates the Pitching Crisis at Hand.

If it's true that we're pursuing Millwood, it's good news. Yes, good news.

Here's why:

1. It means Cash and the H's are spending money, rather than hoarding it.

2. It means they see the problem.

3. It means they're not trading the kids.

4. It means they're making low-cost wagers with possible upside.

5. It means they're looking long range: Millwood, Colon, Garcia, etc. can pitch a season or a month, keeping us in the race and forming a bridge to 2012, when the wave arrives.

Sign Millwood. It's just money. He is our fifth starter. He buys us time.
