Forty-two games left, and Redsocks starting to sweat

They need a big winning streak. Next week, three against Cleveland, then tomato cans through August. In September, it's the Twins, Yankees, Jays, Giants, Phillies, Rangers and Rays... finishing with what's left of Balto.

I tell ya, they're lurkers.

Minnesota is going to fade, bad, which is one team out of their way. Oakland and Tampa Bay are plucky, but only have so much, and Cleveland can't stay THIS hot.

The Sox still have an excellent chance to get in the Wild Card Play-In, and I wouldn't even totally rule them out of the division race, considering our pitching.

Dead in the water.

True or not, it feels good to say it.

Ottavino obviously struggling. Mistake to leave him in to face Son of Vlad.

And...there goes the lead. And yet, Ottavino remains. Great, because it's always better to be down 2-3 runs late in the game, then just 1.

Walk, single, triple. Great work.

Well, here's a potential break. Toronto pulls this Paul Adam guy just after he's worked his way into a terrific groove, blowing away two straight hitters with high cheese.

Why would you NOT at least leave him out there to get the final out in the 8th? Hell, I'd let him pitch the 9th, too. Bad managing on a Ma Boone level, but I'll take it.

No such luck. Blue Jays brought in a guy with a 5.10 ERA. He gave up a hit, but struck out Maybin.

6 hits, 8 strikeouts. We're back to this. Sigh.

And he finished off the ninth in about three pitches.

Yep, the all-time, super great bullpen blew another one.

This is the central trouble. Whenever the hitting takes a day off, NO ONE, either on the starting staff OR the pen can be counted on to stand up.

All the pen needed to do was give us three scoreless today. No could do. No could ever do.
