FWIW, on local TV here, Jim Palmer just predicted Boone would be tossed in this game -- 30th time for him.
Looking forward to Boone being thrown out of the organization but then the realization hits that until Cashman is given walking papers none of this will change.

We do not. Volpe strikes out on 4 pitches. Cabrera works the count full—then grounds into a 3-6-1 DP. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Incidentally, I am now definitely for eliminating all video reviews. It seems like at least a third of the time, it does not matter that the replay shows that the call was wrong.
Cabrera was clearly safe on the replay. But the call stood. Why? The best the mumblebums in the TV booth could come up with was that it was a very close call.
WTF?
They're all very close calls. That's why they're reviewed. Now you have to be really, really, clearly out or safe for the call to be overturned? They're only changing EGREGIOUSLY bad calls?
Time to get dinner and watch a movie. Seven-Year Itch is on. I'll go drool over Marilyn. Beats the general itchiness watching this mistake of a team gives me.

Now that Volpe has dipped below the Mendoza line while Peraza is slashing .333/.583./.968 at Scranton in a significant sample size, might it not be time for Cashman/Boone to admit the impossible once again--that they MADE A MISTAKE in choosing Volpe over Peraza as their starting shortstop, promote Peraza, and demote Volpe for more seasoning?
Tonight's game was another example of sticking with a starter just a bit too long the third time through the order. The smart manager will anticipate and pull the starter before the damage is done, not wait for the damage and then make the move, as is Boone's wont. On this point we must recogniza that Michael Kay is SO STUPID, as if the point needed belaboring. He was at pains to point out that the previous night Cortes struck out two batters during the third time through the order. But the whole issue of third time through is about AVERAGE PERFORMANCE under those conditions--so yes, a pitcher might get guys out at that point, but the LIKELIHOOD is that his overall performance will begin to deteriorate, as it did in this case, fatally, in the seventh. So Kay does not understand the concept of statistical likelihood--which based on averages--and thinks is it entirely refuted by individual instances. This of course is a venial sin when weighed against the overall incompetence and annoyance he slathers over the airwaves every night. Not the hallmark of the first-rate organization--but this is just one among many, on the field and off.
