They claim Anthony Rizzo is okay. I'll believe it when I see him.
For the record, playing 1B at Scranton yesterday was 24-year-old Andres Chaparro, the HR leader of last spring, who is transitioning from 3B. (Is that illegal in Texas?) He went 1-for-3, lifting his average to .263. (It must be noted that he started 2023 going 0-for-his-first two weeks.) Unfortunately, he bats RH.
In case you're scoring at home, the lost legionnaire Estevan Florial went 3-5 with his 12th HR, lifting his average to .322. He bats LH and might be the best fielding outfielder in the farm system, but the Yankees won't give him the time of day.
Instead, we can take heart in knowing Jackie Donaldson went 2-for-3 in a rehab assignment, hitting a HR in the eighth. And Oswald Peraza went 1-4; he's hitting .329.
Happy Memorial Day, everybody. Hug a veteran. Hug a fire truck. Hell, hug everyone.

Trevino is set to rejoin the Yankees in Seattle so they are going to send Ben down, even though...
a) He was the traded for in order to be our starting catcher. We didn't get Trevino until he was hurt.
b) He is a better defensive catcher than Higgy (Who I like BTW but this isn't about that.
c) Bats LEFT handed. Providing another lefty to a righty dominated lineup.
I know that it means they will have to DFA Higgy (Who I like) but sending Ben down (that just reads funny) when he was acquired to be the starter and is now healthy and productive seems... counter productive.

In the next two weeks there are going to be a bunch of changes.
Kahnle is coming back so who goes? Abreu? One can only hope.
Stanton is 90 percent but of what? Bauers goes next right?
Donaldson comes back as well. So Calhoun?

Still no room for Peraza and Florial. It's a shame.
You have to wonder what Florial did and to whom he did it. They've let him bat for the Yankees 65 times over four seasons and...that's it? That's the evaluation? I just don't get it.

Florial has done everything he can at AAA, nothing left to prove there. There is a wide open spot in the OF, and he can’t even get a sniff of it. He is at least the equal of Bauers, Calhoun, Allen, and anybody else they’ve thrown out there this year. You almost want to laugh in Cashman’s vole-like face for his ongoing idiotic decisions.
Rortvedt has been widely lampooned here, not without some justification. TBH, as Higashioka’s defense declines (and he has always been a very sub-par hitter), he may be a better option but it seems a certainty he will be sent down as the team continues to tout washed up rejects and failures instead of allowing opportunities for players who may have just a little bit of upside.
A tough June schedule as the walking wounded begin to trickle back. Donaldson, Stanton, Kahnle will soon be here for better or for worse. Rodon is still quite a ways away.
Jackie Donald Duck and his 25% K rate will soon be here. All he has to do is get one hit in his next 200 at bats and he will be here for the remainder of the season. Unless he gets hurt.

Can't wait to see him botch a DP grounder and open the door for some lucky team to score mucho runs. And, we need more .220 hitters!! Cashman, you hear me? Find some has-been or never-will-be by the end of July.
Oh, and a mediocre-at-best pitcher, please, preferably needing Tommy John surgery.

Plus - the way I saw Rizzo stumble off of first yesterday looked a bit like a boxer taking a shot to the jaw just before they’re knocked out. They’re going to need to be sure he wasn’t concussed before letting him back in.
Rortvedt is the only catcher with options...of course he gets sent down...

How bizarre, to make the Yanks split for the coast in the middle of the Memorial Day weekend—and not even have a day off for the travel. Ridiculous.
That high school game ending was sad. That poor catcher is going to be ridiculed forever. And where was the coach? He should've been rushing about, screaming at the catcher.
I think they all thought the tag was made and misinterpreted the strike sign for the out sign.
Even the coach.
It's just one of those things. game over and all that. What's amazing is the other team kept playing.
I can't tell for certain, but it looks like the ump uses both hands at first in order to call a full strikeout. Then, he corrects it by motioning "safe." Still, why the catcher didn't throw to first is anybody's guess.
