Francisco Cervelli, the lightning catcher

What in the name of Ron Hassey's Knees has happened to our backstops!

Usually, watching a Yankee catcher run is like downloading the entire first season of LOST on a dial-up modem. Even if you hold the cursor on them, you barely notice movement.

Yesterday, in the late innings, "Frankie" Cervelli beat out a slow roller to the Orioles second baseman. It was weird, abnormal, otherworldly -- like a visit to some alternative Yankee universe. There was no trench along the firstbase line, where Molina had pulled his plow.

Frankie is the fastest Yankee catcher since Jake Gibbs came as a rookie. (Note to youth: That's before Internet, before CB radio, before Diet Coke, back to the days of Sputnik and Tang.)

Suggested nickname for Cervilli: "The Blur."

When the old folks return, we should seriously consider keeping Cervelli on the roster as a third catcher. He can pinch run for Georgie/Jose, giving Joe extra options open. We can't go with 12 pitchers forever.

The only reason he made it, was because their second baseman was slow because he thought he had time because it was the catcher running.

Let's see him run out an infield hit again (or maybe when Posada DH's they can try a double steal together).

He's a decent, young catcher with a good arm who is providing some emotional sparks offensively and defensively. Don't trade him!

He was almost Brett Gardner fast. My new name for him is Gardy.
