What not to worry about...

All right, with the perspective of a whole seven games into the season, the following seems clear:

—Ma Boone was not so much to blame for the Fiasco in Toronto. It wasn't just the Analytics, at least according to the postgame interviews. It was also Boone listening to a veteran pitcher telling him who he wanted to pitch to, and how.

Now, sometimes a real manager has to tell said veteran pitcher just to stow it. But sometimes...he has to listen to him, too. So I say we give Ma a pass on this one.

—The fact that Jacoby Ellsbury cannot play a game is a good thing. He is a mediocre player, in decline, and he never had much of a fierce and flaming will to play the game. I hope he is out all season with his assorted ailments.

Put Tyler Austin in left sometimes, and let Walker or Andujar play first. Or call up Florial, at least to catch the ball.

—Giancarlo looked awful in his first Stadium game?  Well, yeah.

But at least he had the good grace to say, "Yeah, I stunk, and they were right to boo me."

Look, in the Babe's first spring training as a Yankee, a fan about a foot shorter than him taunted him unmercifully for striking out twice in a spring training game in Jacksonville. An enraged Babe jumped into the stands after him. Shorty pulled a knife. His teammates barely got the Babe out alive.

On Opening Day, against an awful A's team in Philly, the Babe was playing center, as he had demanded in his new contract.  He let a ball sail over his head to score the winning runs.

In his second game, the Babe struck out 3 times, and went 0-5.  Sound familiar?

Then the Yankees went up to Boston, where they got swept by the lowly Red Sox. The Babe went 3-12, with 1 double. Back home in the Polo Grounds for their home opener, the Babe swung too hard in spring training, separating some ribs. He stuck out on three pitches in his first at-bat, then left the field and did not return to the lineup for days. The Yanks lost 7 of their first 11.

Then, on May 1, the Babe hit a titanic home run over the roof of the Polo Grounds, and he was on his way to an incredible, record-breaking season.

Is Giancarlo Stanton the new Babe Ruth?

No, of course not. There was only one Ruth. But Giancarlo could still be all right.

Now, as for things TO worry about...
