Why, oh why is Gary still batting

Suzyn agrees.

Stupid is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. By that definition Boone is stupid for keeping Sanchez In the lineup

FUCK YOU HAL!

Platoni said...

Astros gonna punish us for continually wasting away chances

Platoni said...

My recollection is that Harry had only had two good playoff games. One against the Astros in 2017 and one against the sox in 2018. Both were games in which basically every Yankee was hitting everything

Other than that, it's been "PUT IN ROMINE!"

Platoni said...

Gary

Fucking autocorrect

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.

Yankees playoffs the last decade or so.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

FUCK YOU HAL!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Pinch hit Romine for Sanchez next time around.
Fucking disgusting.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Time for crosswords in the lair.

Let me know how it turns out. Maybe next Monday.

BernBabyBern said...

Ok, that could have been worse.

Could have been better, but could have been worse.

Where the fuck is the vaunted offense that pounded the fuck out the ball this season? Or was that just against the Orioles?

BernBabyBern said...

Ah, yes, Hicks, who has been such an integral part of our offense all season lo ... oh wait, forget that.

Platoni said...

How the fuck are all these pitches called strikes

BernBabyBern said...

OK, I need some bourbon. Probably lots of bourbon. Gets the juju flowing.

ranger_lp said...

No patience in the batter’s box...

ranger_lp said...

He’s one pitch away from another out...

Austria's Only Baseball Fan said...

ranger_lp, I think he's one pecan away from a fruitcake.

Platoni - to hell with your autocorrect - can you get us this Harry of which it speaks?

BernBabyBern said...

Tanaka looks better now than he did 2 innings ago. Can we get 1 more inning out of him? Only 81 pitches. If we might play 4 games in 4 days, we can't play Boonie's 9-pitchers-a-night strategy.

Platoni said...

Osterreich, you are correct and hilarious. Harry would most definitely got better

Platoni said...

Hit

Fuck me and my phone

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I got Natick across but can find the down answer.

I see a rerun of Killer Klowns from Outer Space is on.

Night all.

BernBabyBern said...

CAN WE DRIVE A DAMN BASERUNNER IN??!?! PLEASE?!?

BernBabyBern said...

We get runners on base every fucking inning, but no one can drive a fucking run in.

Hey, Boonie, here's the strategy for the rest of the game -- If we get someone on base, STOP SWINGING! The only way we score is if they walk us in, so why even try to hit the ball.

BernBabyBern said...

0-for-our-last-11 with RISP. Un-fucking-believable. In the playoffs.

Fuck.

Anonymous said...

I count one good swing by a Yankee batter all game so far.

Anonymous said...

Yup. That's how you do it.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

So fucking depressing. I hate the Astros!

BernBabyBern said...

So, in the first five innings of Game 3, the Yankees left 9 runners on base. Then the bats went silent, with only a solo home run breaking the futility.

Tonight looks just like that game. Through the first 5 innings, 7 left on base.

We'll see if the bats go silent again.

HoraceClarke66 said...

The bottom line is simply this.

Two years ago, the Yankees and the Astros were almost even. There was barely a hairsbreadth between them.

In the time since, the Astros got very much better. The Yanks...not so much.

Yeah, all of Cashman's patchworks succeeded in dispatching a lot of tanking teams. But once again, just as in every other season he's had his team save for 2009, they don't stand up to the other top teams in the postseason.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

Take pitches, stop swinging for the fences, and just put the ball in play. Is that so hard?!

Anonymous said...

The Astros are mentally tough and the Yankees are not. The "savages" are few and far between. And Tauchman should have been in the line up.He got them there and is a grinder. We have too many flailers.

Doug K.

HoraceClarke66 said...

By the way, whose dog did Cameron Maybin run over?

The guy has been 2-6 with 1 HR, 2 runs scored, and a walk in the playoffs so far. And he can't get at-bats over Hicks?

BernBabyBern said...

ICS comes through.

I'd be nice if they did that when it was a close game, rather than down 5, but I'll take it.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Pitching. It's always pitching.

Yanks were really down to Tanaka and Green as consistent performers. When they blew up...

HoraceClarke66 said...

Also, one awful at-bat after another. Now Gio. Oy.

BernBabyBern said...

And Didi's got nothing. I love Didi, but he ain't the same player this year.

BernBabyBern said...

Dear umpires ... Aaron Judge is tall. He does not have the same strike zone as Jose Altuve. Please make a note of that.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Yeah, but Judge is also stinking up the joint on his own. Don't get me wrong. I love him. I will love him more the day he gets a clutch hit.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

As St. Joseph (Torre) used to say, "Take small bites!"

Platoni said...

Some of these pitches are reptilian, i.e. dragging on the ground. Yet, our savages are swinging at them

BernBabyBern said...

Agreed, Hoss. After Game 3, he was saying that the Yankees were getting baserunners, but "we just need to get that big hit." Well, you're the big hitter ... that's your job.

BernBabyBern said...

Of course, I think the reason Judge swings at some of those wormburners is because they call pitches at his shins strikes.

Platoni said...

And Gary swings at them because he's Gary.

But why is Torres swinging at them tonight?

BernBabyBern said...

OK, who's going to be the surprise hero tonight? Urshela? Gardy?

Personally, I'm rooting for Encarnacion, because he seems to be the most intense guy out there this series. I really think he sees this as his shot to finally get to a World Series.

BernBabyBern said...

Ooh, Ottavino is warming up. ... Yippee.

13bit said...

oh, my aching, ancient balls...

HoraceClarke66 said...

Torres swings at too many of them, and then he lets them go when they're borderline, with two strikes. And the EE magic looks to be over.

Everybody seems to be pressing too hard.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And yes, here comes Mr. Zero. Good night nurse!

Platoni said...

When my wife sees me crestfallen later tonight or tomorrow, she'll, nonchalantly, say, "did they lose?". That absolute detachment from a Yankees win or loss or tie or day off or complete deletion from existence is, believe it or not, the most consoling thing I can imagine after any losing disappointment.

BernBabyBern said...

And Encarnacion is proving that the old "who wants it more!!" line is complete and utter bullshit. He looks like he wants it real bad ... and he's 1-for-15.

Platoni said...

Does it show that I've already given up on this team for the year?

13bit said...

We are reverting to form. We have the team to win this - minus one or two stud pitchers, of course - but that's not the roster we assembled for the playoffs. This is Brian's handiwork. The team that got us here was his mid-season disaster Hail Mary, cobbled together quickly out of desperation.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

4 for 26 with RISP. Pretty much the story...

BernBabyBern said...

So that's 17 batters faced by Ottavino this postseason, and 11 have reached base.

I missed my last class on Sabrmerrics, but I don't think that's good.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

CC??!! Good God, no!!

HoraceClarke66 said...

Sad to see The General come apart, too, after all he's done for us.

They kept talking—before I shut off the sound, for all I know they're talking about it still—about how the bottom of the Yankees' lineup really has to get going, so LeMahieu can have more of the RBI opportunities he made the most of all season long.

Well, hey kids, HERE'S a plan: bat LeMahieu in the 3rd or 4th spot!

HoraceClarke66 said...

And now, of course, CC.

This is ragged desperation.

Platoni said...

I see why CC, it's his goddamn goodbye mound appearances, but why the goddamn fuck was Otto in there?

Platoni said...

"Falling apart" is too kindly on this group

HoraceClarke66 said...

Wow. This really is a soul-killing loss. And you go from this game to facing Verlander?

Suzyn's Bitch said...

...and the wheels come COMPLETELY off!

Anonymous said...

“You're going to have to lean on guys that maybe are going through a tough time, that have to step up and get you big outs if you're going to move forward. And I consider Otto one of those guys.”

-Docile Anon

BernBabyBern said...

Why is CC still in there??

Platoni said...

DJ then Torres then Didi. If Urshela is next, it'll be the four Stooges in one inning

BernBabyBern said...

CC in the with the bases loaded scares the hell out of me.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

What the actual fuck was THAT even about?!

HoraceClarke66 said...

The commentary: "You hate to see this be the way he walks off for the final time."

Sure. That's why he had a whole season's worth of chances to walk off after landmark statistical achievements, before cheering crowds. CC insisted on this. Nobody had the balls to stop him. So it's this.

Which, of course, still keeps him ahead of GC in my book.

Anonymous said...

I AM FLABBERGASTED AT WHAT IS TAKING PLACE TONIGHT.

BOTTOM LINE, WHEN WE HAVE GUYS ALL OVER THE BASES, NOBODY COMES THRU WITH THE CLUTCH HIT.

WHEN THEY HAD GUYS ON?

THEY MAKE CONTACT, AND COME THRU.

CC FAREWELL TOUR GIVING AGAIN.

FUCK!

THIS!

MOTHERFUCKING!

COCKSUCKING!

SHIT!

BernBabyBern said...

Why the fuck is Loisiga in there?? Bring in Chapman. If he's our best bet to get an out, he needs to be in there, even if it's not the ninth. We have to get out of this inning.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And here's Johnny Lasagna. It's too bad baseball's not like chess, where when you know you're beat you can just walk away.

13bit said...

I do hate to see that. I wish I had seen him walk off for the final time at the end of the 2018 season. If they sign Gardy again, I'm writing a letter to the team.

Pass the lasagna.

Joe of AZ said...

Cc you fat selfish muther fucker... you not the glasshouse known as Stanton deserve to be on this roster....go eat your cereal

HoraceClarke66 said...

And you know what the stupidest part is?

For the coup de grace tomorrow, Stanton will still be on the bench and STILL on the roster, so he'll be eligible for the World Series.

BernBabyBern said...

He got the out, but I still dont know why he was in there. Bases loaded, they get a hit you're done, so bring in a guy who couldn't get an out the other day.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

Great planning by the Yankees "brain" trust...

Platoni said...

Fuck, you're right, Horace. Boone can suck a poodle's dick. Managers coddling millionaires is obscene

Anonymous said...

...AND WAIT TILL TOMORROW....

I'M REALLY GONNA SOUND OFF!

COCKSUCKER CASHMAN MUST BE SHOWN THE DOOR.

HE IS BEHIND GARDNER AND HICKS BATTING 3RD WHICH IS RIDICULOUS!

13bit said...

I'm going to bed early, people.

Please wake me up if there's a miracle.

We suck. If this continues to head south, I'm going to buy a Nats hat to wear for the rest of the month.

We passed on a couple of good pitchers who could have made the difference in this series. We lost German, but I can't say much about that. We kept some dead wood on the roster when we should have made bolder, more imaginative moves - or logical moves, if you really think about it. We made some bad in-game coaching moves.

OR, you could look at the Gammonite reality:

We won 103 games with half the team injured. CC is a warrior, as is Gardy. Stanton had a bad break. Boner is manager of the year. Let's do it again next year! We don't NEED more pitching. We're fine. Just a few bad breaks.

Which one do you choose?

I know where I stand on this.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Ever notice how many pitches right down the middle Gardy takes? I often wonder what he's looking for in an at-bat. He's been on the team for 12 years, and I can never figure it out.

Oh, there it is, of course: the pitch that is unhittably outside.

13bit said...

Platoni, I happen to have it on solid hearsay that Boner actually likes poodle dick.

And ALL-CAPS, Cash ain't going nowhere. Hal is happy with him. There's a line of people who will be thrown under the bus before Cash goes down.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Why do the TV cameras always focus on the losing manager so much in big baseball games?

It's not like baseball managers are college basketball or pro football coaches. They never rage or shout or throw things.

They never do anything but stare ahead grimly. Which is pretty much what they do when they are winning.

TheWinWarblist said...

On call today at the hospitals. My day been so long and so heavy and so wearing that I have no sadness left for this sham of a Yankees team.

Fuck.

Joe of AZ said...

So many damn balls right down the middle they just stare at.... That can't be what analytics call for....

Fuck you Hal and Cassman

HoraceClarke66 said...

Also, Platoni, I'm sure the ultimate decision on Stanton was Cashman's. Boone may have input, but I'm sure he can't say, I'm going with Maybin, the Lost Yankee.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Tonight there was only so much we ever expected from Sanchez or Gardner or EE.

However, we did get what passes for our big guns up in key situations, Judge and Torres. They flopped. And LeMahieu, our other star, flopped in the field.

BernBabyBern said...

That was a pathetic swing by Didi.

Anonymous said...

They should bring up Tauchman and Voit just to let them play in the ALCS. They deserve it. and say that EE and Stanton's injuries are too much.

Might as well. It's not like we come back. And if anyone is going to lead a comeback it's those guys.

Here lies the 2019 New York Yankees...

BernBabyBern said...

Et tu, Gleyber?

Anonymous said...

STRIKEOUT.

STRIKEOUT.

STRIKEOUT.

STRIKEOUT.

EVERYBODY IN THIS LINEUP, 1 THRU 9, JUST KEEPS STRIKING OUT.

WHEN GLEYBER WAS UP WITH BASES LOADED 1 OUT, HE WAS SWINGING SO HARD, IT WAS INSANE!

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD CASHMAN, YOU ASSHOLE.

WE GOT ALL THESE HOME RUN HITTERS AND GUYS WHO WORK THE COUNT AND GET ON BASE, BUT HAVE NOT ONE CLUTCH HITTER LIKE A MANNY, OR A PAPI, OR AN ALTUVE, OR A CORREA, OR A SPRINGER TO DRIVE THEM IN COME PLAYOFF TIME!

NOT A FUCKING ONE!

Joe of AZ said...

That's what the fuck management gets for tryin to reinvent the wheel when what we see time and time again is elite pitching and good "hitters" get you championships

Stop copying the fuckin Ray's who are also sitting at home and look no further than your 90s team for a winning model :(

Suzyn's Bitch said...

4 errors?! Yikes!

Anonymous said...

Gleybar is not there. You could seeit early. The first pitch popup, the crappy throw from a seated position, the K with the bases loaded, now error.

Doug K.

HoraceClarke66 said...

The Gleyber has gone from the next Derek Jeter to the next Jim Mason in the course of an evening.

This is something that Boone really should've worked harder to prevent. Torres is obviously pressing way too much, and looks close to tears.

Anonymous said...

WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR....

THIS HURTS....

THIS FUCKING HURTS...

END THIS!!!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE FIELD TONIGHT!!!!

THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR YEAR.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Most errors by the Yankees in a playoff game since 1976.

HoraceClarke66 said...

You know, this is not just the Yankees. This is another piece of baseball dying.

This game is—again—over 4 hours old, and played with as little grace and skill as I can remember. The Astros don't even look that good winning.

The Yankees—and the game in general—deserve to lose some serious support over debacles like this, and I suspect that they will.

Suzyn's Bitch said...

Mercy rule, please...

Joe of AZ said...

Is there a fuckin coach on this team....loasiga is clearly overthrowing/ pressing and no mound visits

Disgusting

HoraceClarke66 said...

Trying to preserve some scrap of ratings for Friday night, one of the box voices was going on about how the Washington Nationals looked so out of it in the Wild Card game and against the Dodgers, but were able to come back "and just steamroll the Cardinals with their starting pitching."

Exactly. The Nationals have starting pitching.

Pitching—and particularly starting pitching—ALWAYS gives you a puncher's chance in a short series. Back in the day, the Dodgers were starting people like Dick Tracewski in World Series games...and winning, because they had Sandy Koufax or Don Drysdale on the mound.

This has been almost a clinic of all-around awful play tonight, pitching, hitting, and fielding. But pitching is the only way you come back from it. If we had, say, Original El Duque going tomorrow, I'd say we might have a chance.

We don't.
