Masahiro Tanaka insisted on coming off the DL tonight—and
insisted on shutting down the virtual Red Sox in the Fens, 10-1.
Home runs by Aaron Judge, Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres,
and Mike Ford made it all a romp, but Tanaka—sporting a beautifully painted
head bandage, pitched seven gritty innings to bring the Yankees to glory.
"Yes, I have been hit in the head. So are many
people, everyday, in this violent world. I still had to do my job,"
said Tanaka, after his brilliant effort.
The win ended the month of July at 15-8, and a total of
75-34 for the season thus far—still one game behind the frontrunning TB Rays.
"Oh, we'll catch them," manager Ma Boone said
after the game. "By all that is holy, we will run them down like the
dogs they are, and rip their throats out! Or, you know, a wild card spot
would be fine, too."
