Wagner Goes To Sox For A Bag of Balls

The Boston Red Sox, feeling the pressure of not enough payroll and not enough big names on their roster, have been awarded the Met's Billy Wagner  for two mid-level AA players.

The Red Sox granted Wagner's request to release him from any obligation next season so, when he does sign with another team, the Red Sox will get draft picks.  And the Red Sox do not have to pick up his $10 million contract.

No top prospect of the Sox was involved in this transaction, per usual.

The Indians didn't want any good players for Victor Martinez, and the Mets didn't want any for Wagner.  Both wanted career minor leaguers to fill up holes in their rosters.

Why does everyone give up proven talent to the small market Red sox and want nothing back?

Is this a conspiracy that the baseball Commissioner should investigate?

I need a gallon of manhattans, followed by tranquilizers.

We will rue this deal in the playoffs.

I like the Red Sox, but I think their winning streak is over
