Apparently, Rupert Murdoch's station didn't want to pay extra money to Rupert Murdoch's YES network to broadcast Yankee games this season.
Murdoch - as majority owner of YES - is, essentially, a partner of Hal Steinbrenner. But he didn't want to invest in the current team.
Could he know something?

Arrrghhh.
I just got it:
1) If Channel 9 pays to broadcast Yanks games, it's soft money, i.e., Murdoch is paying himself, moving money from one pocket to the other, etc.
2) If Channel 9 puts up a "fuss" about renewing the YES contract, and a non-Murdoch station like Channel 11 steps in and picks up the Yanks games, Murdoch is paid hard money, i.e., he lines his pockets with his competitors' gold. Meanwhile, his own property (Channel 9) picks up something else to fill the time slot, sells ads, and Murdoch earns money anyway. I.e., he just sold the same time twice.
How do I learn to do this?
Was this obvious to everyone else?
