The 2015 Yankees, if there were no Cashman and no trades

Imagine there's no trading,
It's easy if you do,
No Trenton Thunder raiding,
And no more Stephen Drew...
Imagine all the Yankees,
Rising from the farm...

What if the Yankees never made trades, never signed a free agent, and just relied on the farm system that everybody tells us, day in and day out, is a sham? What if they simply believed in young players, rather than chasing veterans?  (Okay, this lineup wouldn't win a World Series, but imagine it with a few free agents added here or there...)

Ladies and gentlemen, your homegrown 2015 Yankees.
(With no free agents)
Imagine...

Batting Order (with average and HRs)
Brett Gardner, LF (.259, 16)
Jimmy Paredes, 3B (.275, 10)
Robbie Cano, 2B (.287, 21)

Francisco Cervelli, C (.295, 7)
Yangervis Solarte, DH  (.270, 14)
Greg Bird, 1B (.261, 11)
Austin Jackson, CF (.267, 9)
Eduardo Nunez, SS (.262, 4)

Adonis Garcia, 3B-OF
John Ryan Murphy, C

Slade Heathcott, OF
Jose Pirela, IF

Starting Pitchers (ERA and Wins)
Masahiro Tanaka (3.51, 12)
Ian Kennedy (4.13, 9)
Phil Hughes (4.40, 11)
Carlos Quintera (3.36, 9)
Luis Severino (2.89, 5)
Adam Warren (3.29, 7)

Backup Starters
Ivan Nova
Manny Banuelos
Zack McAllister
David Phelps

Bullpen (ERA, saves)
Dellin Betances (1.50, 9)
Arodys Vizciano, (1.60, 9)
Mike Dunn (4.50, 3)
Mark Melancon (2.23, 51)
Tyler Clippard (3.06, 2)
David Robertson (3.41, 34)

Backups
Joba Chamberlain
Randy Choate
Nick Goody
Nick Rumbelow
Brandon Pinder

So, is this a playoff team? Probably not, though I do like the lights-out bullpen, which would reduce games to six innings, maybe five. Add a free agent (that's not named Ellsbury), and who knows? Wild Card?

I was wondering about this since the post that brought this up the other day. I'd take this team, win or lose. There would at least be an emotional attachment to a team with so many homegrown players.

Can we sue the front office for malfeasance, malpractice or financial imprudence? There has to be something we can charge them with...

But could we really get along without Carlos Beltran?

...AND CHASE HEADLEY?

Who'd we get in the Cano trade again?

John, we should pitch in and fly a plane with a banner over the Stadium. Don't know exactly what it should say, but definitely something real embarrassing to Hal "I'm Not Cheap" , who is the chink in the armor of the Steingrabber legacy.

And about that lineup, give Heathcott a chance. Gardy is such a crash-and-burn player -- God bless him for that -- that he's creaky. Fourth outfielder?

LOVE THE "IMAGINE" SONG, (EL DUQUE STYLE)..SORRY I'M OFF TOPIC, BUT...I GOTTA GET SOMETHING OFF MY CHEST...OK, HERE GOES........WE CAN'T HIT.....WE JUST CAN'T HIT, AND HAVEN'T REALLY BEEN ABLE TO HIT IN ABOUT WHAT, 3, 4 YEARS?...NOW, HOW IN THE BLUE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO IMPROVE THIS OFFENSE?....I WAS LISTENING TO FRANCESA ON THE RADIO TODAY, AND A YANKEE FAN CALLS UP AND SAYS, "WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE YANKS GOING AFTER DANIEL MURPHY?"... FRANCESA SAYS, "WELL, I BELIEVE HE WOULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS HITTER IN YANKEE STADIUM ,I COULD SEE 25-30 HOMERS, BUT THERE ISN'T A NEED FOR HIM. THEY NEED RIGHT HANDED HITTERS.".......I WAS IN MY CAR, YELLING TO MYSELF, "WE DON'T HAVE A FUCKING NEED FOR 25-30 HOMERS???...WE DON'T HAVE A NEED FOR A CLUTCH HITTER, WHO SPRAYS THE BALL TO ALL FIELDS???......IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER IF HE BATS LEFTY OR RIGHTY!...HE HITS EVERYBODY!!!!"........OK, I KNOW WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET HIM...AND I DO WANT REFSNYDER AS MY FIRST CHOICE AT 2ND.....BUT MOTHERFUCKER, I JUST KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER "BUBBA CROSBY" MOMENT, AND HE WILL NOT BE THE 2ND BASEMAN NEXT YEAR.......SO, WILL IT BE HOWIE KENDRICK?...WILL IT BE BEN ZOBRIST?....CAN EITHER ONE OF THEM BE A REAL "DIFFERENCE MAKER" IN THE YANKEE LINEUP?....SORRY BUT THE ANSWER IS NO.....BUT MURPHY....WELL....I SEE THIS GUY GETTING BETTER AND BETTER WITH THE BAT EVERY YEAR...HE IS 30....I BELIEVE HE IS HITTING HIS PRIME RIGHT NOW AND IF YOU PLACE HIM IN YANKEE STADIUM, HE IS GOING TO HIT 25-30 HOME RUNS, KNOCK IN 80-90 RBI, BAT .285-.290, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, HIT IN THE FUCKING CLUTCH WHICH IS SOMETHING THIS YANKEE TEAM HAS NOT DONE IN AGES!......."ISN'T A NEED" FOR SOMEONE LIKE THAT???..... OK, I KNOW HE'S A PRETTY SHITTY FIELDER, AND IT AIN'T A PERFECT WORLD...BUT THAT'S WHY WE HAVE "DEFENSIVE WIZ" BRENDAN RYAN HANGING AROUND FOREVER RIGHT?....MAKE RYAN COME IN FOR HIM IN THE 8TH OR 9TH IN A TIGHT GAME....IS IT 100% PERFECT?...NO....BUT IT IS LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER THAN HAVING FUCKING STEPHEN DREW PROVIDING ALMOST ZERO OFFENSE FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR FROM THE 2ND BASE POSITION....YOU CAN ALSO SPELL THAT MISERABLE FUCKING HEADLEY AT 3RD ON SOME DAYS, AND PLAY MURPHY THERE TOO....HE CAN STEP IN A FIRST TOO FOR WHATEVER REASON....THINK OF IT THIS WAY..... WE WOULD GET "ROBINSON CANO PRODUCTION" FROM THE 2ND BASE POSITION, AND SAVE ROUGHLY $185 MILLION DOLLARS IN THE PROCESS! ........LIKE I SAID, I KNOW IT AIN'T HAPPENING.......BUT......HOW ARE WE GOING TO FIX THIS OFFENSE!!!!!

John M said...

We're not fixing anything until the old guys come off the books and the new guys start to play every day. Of course, they won't get that chance because some other old guys will be signed to block their way.

To paraphrase Lennon again, all we are say...ing....is give Slade a chance.

I AM IN SEVERE NEED OF MY MEDS. PLEASE, I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO AND NEED ATTENTION FROM EL DUQUE. NEVER MIND THE FACT THAT I HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM MORE SITES FOR MY OBSTINANCE AND IGNORANCE. I BOARD IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I WAS RAISE BY VEGAN WOLVES. I READ A BOOK ONCE, IT WAS ABOUT SOMETHING. OBVIOUSLY, NOT BASEBALL.

Relax. You have safe harbor here. The monsters cannot get you.

But we are three years away from a World Championship team.
