Umm...What?

Yanks are signing Troy Tulowitzki.  WTF?

I don't even get this one.  In order to pressure Manny?  Not bloody likely.

I just don't get it.

Gonna be a strange year.

WOW.

MAYBE THIS MEANS WE ARE DONE WITH MANNY, AND WILL MOVE ON TO BRYCE?

I ACTUALLY WOULD LIKE THAT.

This is what it means: The Yankees are once again going with a has-been former star who is so finished that the Blue Jays ate 38 million just to get him of the roster and screwing over another star on the rise. This time it's Gleyber Torres who gets screwed.

A bargain. You know, like Neal Walker. Great price. Good stats from years ago. What could go wrong?

At least, maybe, it means Neil isn't coming back.

Why this might be Good:

1 -- it lets Gleyber concentrate on hitting and fielding at 2B. Moving him puts all kinds of pressure on him. SS really is a tough position. He can still be the SS Of The Future -- even if he ain't the SS of right now. Let's remember: Gleyber Torres is 22 years old (he just had a birthday in December).

2 -- the CBS Sports piece I saw claims NYYs will pay him "the league minimum," with the Blue Jays picking up all of the millions Tulo is owed. That means, essentially, the $$$ situation doesn't change at all with this signing.

3 -- with Miggy, Gleyber, and who-knows-who (Saint Luke?) at first, Tulo's experience just might stabilize the infield, YEAH, I WANT DIDI THERE. But apparently he reappears at mid-year, at best.

4 -- the aforementioned "maybe this means we don't sign Walker" is a blessing, ain't it?

Can Tulo still play? Is he going to hit .187? No one can know this. At age 34, he might muff everything and be released during March, leaving the NYYs looking for another solution at SS (including moving Gleyber).

There are negatives, even if he returns to form. He struck out 215 times in about 1,000 ABs in combined full years '15 and '16. He hit RH.

Again, if he sucks, the situation isn't any different than it was a few days ago.

But if the guy can hit .248 and stabilize the infield, this really works for me. THEY CAN STILL SIGN MANNY, if need be. There's the same amount of money available today as there was on 12/31. Maybe Tulo can teach Manny how to play SS....?

Sorry to be so positive. I'm singing "Look For The Silver Lining" as I type this.

According to the baseball experts at Wikipedia:

"In spite of his talent, he has gained a reputation for being an injury-prone player, having played at least 140 games in a season only three times and missing at least 30 games in each of the last six seasons due to various ailments."

Maybe they should ask for two of 'em for that price. At least it makes Torres' future a little brighter.

Hi and Happy New Year to all! I had major surgery in November and will be in rehabilitation and recuperating for the next few months, so that's why you haven't heard from me since, well, game 104.

It wouldn't be Viennese of me if I didn't send you our weird traditional greeting:

Ich wünsche Ihnene einen guten Rutsch in neue Jahr!

Meaning: I wish you a good slide into the new year!

Has s sort of baseball ring to it!

Tulo signing is good news. Not a threat to Gleyber or Andujar. RESPECTS YANKEE TRADITION, & has positive attitude, will help teammates. Not an arrogant hot dog like Machado.

I told you all that there was some exciting Hot Stove action in the works!!! wow!!

Glad to hear you're on the mend, our favorite Viennese! And isn't there some tradition in your city wherein everybody puts together weird costumes for New Year's? Thought I read that somewhere.

Austria's only: Hope your recovery goes well. Do what the doctors say and don't drink any Extract of Ells-berry. That stuff will set you back.

Hoss, Yes! Maybe no Walker. Can't put a price on that.

FOB, I agree for the most part. It only becomes a problem if Boone starts to over rely on him as they wait for him to "play to the back of his baseball card".
