New Yankee fan philosophy: Hooray for Redsocks overpayments!

O, we've got them now! They overpaid for Adrian Beltre! Nine million dollars? They must be desperate to win next year. Ha-ha!

Those stupid Redsock owners certainly won't get more bang from their Beltre buck than we will from Jamie Hoffman, our $50,000 flea market left-field threat. In fact, he might become the cheapest outfielder in Yankee history! That means, even if he sucks -- never gets one base hit -- he'll still be worth every penny!

It's like buying batteries at a garage sale. Who cares if they don't work! You only paid 25 cents!
.
Yes, Yankee fans, that is sarcasm. And yes, I am speaking to you.
Since when do midnight-blue-blooded Yankee fans sound like Kansas City Royals fans?
We're supposed to celebrate that Boston has overpaid? While we're being cheap?
.
Why not just root for the Blue Jays. You can do cost-benefit analyses on every player -- don't forget the depreciation, Dr. Zimbalist! -- and celebrate having won the World Series of frugality for the last 10 years.
.
Listen, folks: Here is their lineup: Youkilis. Pedroia. Scutero. Beltre. Martinez. Drew. Ellsbury. Cameron. Ortiz. And their rotation: Dice K, Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Wakefield and Buckholtz. They never cut into the farm system, because they didn't trade any prospects.
.
We're supposed to celebrate that they're overpaying? They might win 110 games with that lineup, and we're going to dance around and say they're not frugal?
.
WHY THE HELL AREN'T WE OVERPAYING? WE'RE THE YANKEES, GADAMMIT. EVERYBODY IS BASEBALL WILL BLAME US FOR HIGH SALARIES, WHETHER WE DO IT OR NOT. BOSTON WILL GET A FREE RIDE, AND WE'LL BE THE BAD GUYS. SO WHY ARE WE BEING SO CHEAP? TO APPEASE BUD --- $16.5 MILLION PER YEAR -- SELIG?
.
Comrades, they had a name for this long ago. It was called COLLUSION. At the time, all the owners did it. This year, it's just one ownership. We've got the money. We're just buying new silverware instead.
.
Yankee fans are going to pay the price. It's going to be a long, brutal year. I can't believe how many lapdog Yankee fans are in denial about what's going on.

Cameron, Beltre, Scutaro? BFD.
Ortiz, Wakefield? Over the hill.
Dice-K? Overrated.
Wakefield? Done.
Beckett? Not what he was.

But yeah, we should sign Damon.
Damon, Granderson, Vazquez, Johnson would be > Cameron, Beltre, Lackey, Scutaro.

And most "prospects" never actually make it anyway.

OH NOES!!!1!!111!1 Teh redsocks got Beltre, Cameron and MARCO SCUTARO!!!! Scutaro hit a walkoff home run off Mo that one time!!! We deeeaaaaddd!!!!

Like Joe DePastry said, B. F. D. And he's right that signing Damon would be nice. (But only for a 1-year contract, since although Damon he can hit, he can't field or throw.)

The '10 Sox are not exactly the second coming of Manny and Papi. Yes, their pitching staff is good, but so is ours. And keep in mind that the Sox lost Jason Bay, and Beltre + Cameron < Bay + Lowell. Also, Scutaro is a light-hitting glove man who had a career year. I recall John & Suzyn saying that it had a lot to do with the Jays' coaching staff. We'll see. In any event, I won't worry until they get Adrian Gonzalez. (But the good thing is that if they do, they won't have anywhere to play Youk.)

So...to answer your question, Cashmoney is not overpaying because it's a bad idea. There was a good article on fangraphs recently explaining that the Yankees are reaching the point of diminishing returns with regard to wins. See HERE .

It pretty much says that the team is already going to win close to 100 games, so adding Holliday to the Yanks for $17+ million (+40% luxury tax) would have been a big waste of $ for the Yanks because he would only add a handful more wins over the course of the season, whereas he's worth more to the Cards because he can make a much bigger difference in a weaker lineup. Also, Holliday got 7 years from the Cards. We already have too many people on long-term contracts in their late 30s.

Finally, although you may say that we need a bat like Holliday's in the postseason, I agree. As the old saying goes...Winning in the playoffs is all about having power-hitting corner outfielders. That is how it goes, right? Right?

I'll settle for Reed Johnson or GGBG. Or Damon for one year.

GWC = truth

There's a reason the Yankees didn't sign Lackey and it's because we already paid too much for a somewhat injury-prone and inconsistent pitcher over 30 last year.

Plus, what are we, Red Sox fans that we care more about the Red Sox, and we panic about everything they do, than the Yankees? You know the Red Sox have to be desperate because they've signed so many black guys (cheap shot).

This site got annoying.

Saving our extra pennies this year for Mauer, Crawford & Lee next year. It will make the socks fans crap beans for years to come!

They didn't even overpay for Beltre. That contract is a steal
