Just traded Justin Wilson to the Tigers for two prospects. The Tigers, an organization infamous for the dearth of talent in its system.

2 good pitchers gone. But, no matter, as the Yanks have a logjam of excellent starting pitching and an abundance of strong arms @ AAA. The team of the best of all possible worlds. Brian, you're a fucking genius.

YET, JOEL SHERMAN SAYS, "THE YANKEES JUST TURNED FRANCISCO CERVELLI AND 1 YEAR OF JUSTIN WILSON INTO 2 PROSPECTS."....LIKE HE DID SOMETHING MIRACULOUS!!! ...THIS TRADE SUCKS!!!...WE JUST GAVE AWAY A GUY WHO WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO CLOSE FOR MOST TEAMS FOR 2 MIDDLE OF THE ROAD PITCHING PROSPECTS.....IT LITERALLY SEEMS LIKE CASHMAN IS JUST TRYING TO FILL OUR TRIPLE A ROSTER, BUT HE DID IT TO THE DETRIMENT OF THE BIG CLUB!

So the Yankee brains do not like Refsnyder. At all. A pity for sure, because everybody loves homegrown. But that's the kind of stuff that happens. Sometimes you have to let go of something precious.
Personally I'd prefer having Judge and Sachez and Bird and Refsnyder et al in the line-up next year, but we all know that is not a sentiment that has any roots in the realm of realism.

So probably some other deal will come from all this. And if not, the Yanks may have the ground works of something that will turn into a competitive team somewhere between now and, say, 2020. You, me, Chapman and the owners might get lucky.

Fuming about where Hank is stuffing his (hard inherited) money is pointless. Who ever made us think that baseball is a sport. It is an industry and a profitable one at that. Especially the Yankees. Why is it so hard to swallow for us that this franchise is making loads of money for its owners and that because of that, there is no reason whatsoever to improve it.
Why throw money at a franchise that is thriving. Every businessman will try to cut costs to further stimulate profits and gains.

The only reason to field a winning team (let alone a team that is always in contention) is when the profits fall. Because then you have to tickle the potential fanbase into buying stuff again. From tickets to memorabilia to Yes subscriptions to hotdogs with the infamous logo.
We should not be looking at standings and games over .500. We should only be looking at the profitability of the franchise and hope for a decline in (shareholder) value. That is the only reason the Yankees will have a chance to become a winning franchise again.
