Last night, Gary Sanchez replaced the wrong guy in the lineup

Who wasn't juiced-up Monday night when Brian Cashman announced that Gary Sanchez was coming to town! We'd heard about the guy since 2010, when he signed for the biggest bonus (at the time) ever paid to a 16-year-old, (excluding the ex-students of Dennis Hastert.) At first, he was our second Second Coming of Jesus (Montero.) Later, he was hailed as the reason we could trade Jesus for the immortal Michael Pineda. We've watched Sanchez through big seasons (18 HRs and .274 last year at Scranton and Trenton) and a two-week suspension (attitude adjustments are annual events in our system), and here he was... your newest Yankee, 23-year-old Gary Sanchez... DH!

Huh? Excuse me? This is what we raised? A DH? For six years, we've heard Sanchez was learning the craft of catcher. Now, he's a DH? Like Jesus. Like Tex. Like Beltran. Like A-Rod. Like everybody. We have a lineup of DHs, and now, one more?

Of course, the reason "Sanchy" - (Girardi's nickname, ugh) - arrived at DH is none other than Brian McCann, the scariest looking Yankee. For all of Cashman's widely hailed trades this week, McCann stayed - surely due to a contract so toxic it glows in the dark . He's 32, can't outwit the over-shifts, and we have him for three more long years - at $17 million per.

Last night, McCann might have caught a glimpse of his future when peering into the dugout to see Alex Rodriguez eating sunflower seeds. Once again, Joe Girardi ignored A-Rod, despite career stats displaying an utter ownership of Bartolo Colon. Girardi is usually addicted to his binders. But not last night. Sanchez got a double and a scratch single, great. But Girardi's plan failed. McCann came up in the sixth with the Yankees down by four, with two on and one out, and a chance to change the game. He swung at the first pitch and popped up. We never challenged again. A-Rod watched, and the Yankees went down like lambs, McCann striking out in the eighth on three pitches. Oh, well...

Girardi said he dismissed A-Rod's career stats against Colon as old numbers. Well, they're old players. One clobbers the other. Surely, Colon would have pitched around A-Rod, walking him rather than face another blunt trauma. A-Rod never got a chance, and the Yankees fell.

The more it goes on, the humiliation of Alex Rodriguez carries the scent a top-down edict, a move dictated by Shallow Hal Steinbrenner, hoping to evade the final year of A-Rod's great horror deal. What better way to do it than turning the man into a giant, castrated chicken mascot: Leave him rotting on the bench until he demands a trade, or retirement, or a loaded Luger. This is, after all, hardball. Long ago, Hal's pursuits became clear: He wants to make money. And when we go to Boston next week, Hal's penny-grubbing fingerprints could be hard to ignore:

Yoan Moncada might be playing, but A-Rod surely won't. We'll have Gary Sanchez, the hot new Yankee DH.

Foodstamps Hal will make ARod an offer next year and it will go something like this:

Mr ARod, we will pay you your $21 MM next year but you will get not one at bat. You can forget that 700th homerun, pal. OR, we DFA you and maybe you get picked up by another team where you might get the at bats to reach 700. But to make that work, we're only going to pay you 1/3 what we owe. Your choice. Have a nice day and go fuck yourself.

Love, Hal

and in response, A-Rod should tell Foodstamps Hal that he likes having a nice seat in the dugout for an entire major-league season, especially since it comes with a $21 MM check.

Just as Teixiera recognizes that his ability to be a good/great baseball player may have slipped away, but he's not leaving til he gets all that he has coming. He is announcing his retirement this afternoon, but of course he's not leaving til the end of the season so he can collect every last dollar in his contract -- as any sane person would do.

Neither A-Rod or Tex held a gun to Hal's head to get him to offer many millions per year for many years. Play out the string, boys, and make him pay.

I tend to disagree concerning Alex Rodriguez
I have noticed a strange coincidence over the past couple of years Girardi plays the guys, who worthless Cashman has either traded for or picked . (ex Drew, or any other Boras client) Cashman is definitely Scott's bitch !!

I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS A LAWSUIT OUT THERE IF THE YANKEES RELEASE AROD, AND HE HITS HIS "MILESTONE" HOMERS WITH ANOTHER TEAM..... THE YANKEES OWE HIM, I BELIEVE, $6 MILLION DOLLARS FOR EVERY MILESTONE HE REACHES...IF THEY RELEASE HIM, AND HE HITS THE MILESTONE HOMERS FOR ANOTHER TEAM, THE YANKEES MAY REFUSE TO PAY BECAUSE AROD DIDN'T HIT THE HOMERS FOR THE YANKEES..... I DON'T KNOW THE WORDING OF THE CONTRACT, BUT I HAVE A FEELING THAT IS WHY THE YANKS DON'T RELEASE HIM, AS IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO KEEP SOMEONE WHO NEVER PLAYS........... IT'S PLAIN AND SIMPLE TO ME, ALTHOUGH NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT THAT HAL WANT TO SAVE THE $6 MILLION ON THE "MILESTONE" HOMER BONUS...IF HE DOESN'T PLAY, HE CAN'T GET THE BONUS, AND HAL SAVES $6 MILLION!!!.....PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
