Joe Torre Wants to Ruin a Game He Apparently Doesn't Understand

"It's not fun to watch when you go through your whole pitching staff and wind up bringing a utility infielder in to pitch," Joe Torre told Yahoo.
What?!
Report: MLB considering starting extra innings with runner on second base

Big Bang adds: "He wants to destroy the thing he's in charge of. Like Trump's Cabinet, right?"

Forget about impeaching Trump. We need to impeach Joe Torre.

Joe's baseball genius left him when Don Zimmer left him.

Torre is the most overrated manager of all time. He never got more out of a team than the team was theoretically capable of producing. When he managed bad teams, their records were bad. When he managed mediocre teams, as he usually did pre-Yankees, the results were mediocre. When the Yankees had put together a great team under Watson, the much-derided Showalter and the Stick, they handed it to Torre, and they performed fantastically. He expected to be paid accordingly. When the team itself wasn't so great, after 2001, neither were the results. None of that was his fault (Hiya, Donald!), and salary tied to results insulted him.

He brought nothing but pomposity and arm-killing bullpen management. Now, as always, he's full of himself and thinks more of the manager than the players or the game itself.

Safe at Home is the one thing I find admirable about this guy. It has nothing to do with baseball.

No. No. No. No. No. No. And, no.

Doesn't he understand the purity of the game?

That there's no clock, and no line that marks the end of the playing field (other than an outfield wall, which can be placed anywhere the home team wants), and that the teams keep playing, as long as it takes, until someone wins?

Put a man on second to start an inning? What is this, tee-ball?

No. No. No. No. No. No. And, no.

MLB (AND TORRE), ARE TRYING TO BE LIKE THE NFL..... THEY TINKER WITH THE GAME ALMOST EVERY YEAR...... I'M WITH LBJ....DON'T TOUCH IT....PUTTING A GUY ON 2ND BASE IN EXTRA INNINGS??? ...NO WAY.....THE BEAUTY OF THE GAME IS THERE IS NO CLOCK..... OK, MAYBE I CAN LIVE WITH A GUY NOT THROWING ANY PITCHES ON AN INTENTIONAL WALK, BUT EVEN THAT KIND OF BOTHERS ME.... DIDN'T GARY SANCHEZ GET AN RBI (ALMOST A HOME RUN), DURING AN INTENTIONAL WALK?

In a word: NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!, (Joe)
John M: I think he's the SECOND most-overrated mgr: he may have been pompous, but Joey Blue-Binders is arrogant & irritable if & when anybody questiions him. Further, at least Torre did preach to his players to move runners over (jB-B does not); and Torre wasn't nearly as much caught up in this matchy-matchy garbage as Joey B-B is - - nothing more irritating than that, to me - - nor more time-consuming. One time, about three years ago, Joey burned TWO relief pitchers on one at-bat (opposing mgr. pulled a switch of pinch-hitters, so, of course, Joey trotted out and switched pitchers - - killing two hurlers out of our pen for the price of one. Now, THAT is incompetence which is matchless. LB (No J)

Anon, I stand corrected.
