They will play 81 home games in an open-air, sold-out, homer-happy, real grass bandbox, instead of a giant ping pong ball with a constant stream of sound effects.
Yesterday, they presented themselves as "visitors" to George M. Steinbrenner Field, their future home.
What happened? Who cares?
Oh, well... New first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit a double. His replacement, TJ Rumfield, a prospect with no prospects, had a single. Outfielder Spencer Jones drove in a run with two outs. A 31-year-old, 5'8" infielder named Pablo Reyes, playing outfield, went one for two.
Marcus Stroman started - his requirement, of course - and pitched a scoreless inning. So did eight other pitchers (though not starters, of course.)
Earlier in the day, the Yankees dropped their longstanding policy against facial hair, replacing it with a policy against crazy looking facial hair and, perhaps, next, Post Malone forehead tattoos?
Finally, Aaron Boone began anew with a two-season contract extension. What photos does he possess?

Bit, in case my comment on yesterday's AA post came too late, I will do everything possible to be at the AA gathering in the Village.
It's breaking my heart to leave NYC after 40 years. And the place I'm going in Germany reminds me too much of Schenectady. No music venues (even Schenectady has Proctor's Theater), gaping holes in the ethnic food scene, empty streets except for the "downtown" area...the list goes depressingly on. But I'll try to make the best of it. At least we'll have an elevator and won't be in a fifth-floor walkup.
And the massive time difference that makes watching night games basically impossible, and watching day games (which become night games) only through a VPN and IPTV. Scottish Fan and Dutch Fan, you'll have company.
But if my wife wants to go, I go. As George Burns titled a book about him and Gracie, "Because I Love Her, That's Why."
I wonder if there's a store that carries American whiskey...
The story is that Judge was a big supporter of re-signing Boone. As Bleeding Yankee Blue points out, that probably means he'll never win a ring. Very strange.
JM - no pressure, but I hope you can make it. I'd love to pick your brain on the move, if nothing else. I have been in the Village here for over 40 years and a big part of me wants to leave, but I'm afraid of the same broken heart syndrome. It could also be that, financially, it would be better to leave. What's keeping me? Aside from stasis and inertia, my girlfriend/fiancee of three years is from out west and loves the city. Aside from the joy of seeing the city anew through her eyes for the past few years, it could make sense to stay - at least at this moment in history (cough cough). But we are thinking of moving out of the Village, which has become a cesspool of young tech bros. It's also full of ghosts for me, although I like to talk to the ghosts. Anyway, I hope you can make it, if even for a short time. We're all so skittish that I don't see this going on for too long. Crack is expensive, after all.
Just to be clear, it was BRENDAN Jones out there yesterday, not Spencer Jones. Is this the high point of his Yankee career?
alternatively - the get together could last for hours - and just to be clear - there needs to be a better name for it other than the AA gathering because for what its worth, at the very minimum - people might get the wrong idea and feel obligated to bring along a/their sponsor. so perhaps a better handle for this.
40 years is an epic amount of time. i was only there for 14 and leaving for the left coast was bitter sweet. for me the city is like an old, reliable powerstrip. everyone insists that you throw it away and get a new one. but there's something special about the recharge you get from it when you plug back in, even for a short time.
you just need to not electrocute yourself when you unplug.....
did you know that some coffee can speak? gotta go see what its squawking about . . .
Chase Hampton had TJ. Surgery yesterday and will be out until at least late 2026. With a strike/lockout looming in ‘27, he may not pitch again until 2028.
Chase, we hardly knew ye…
Great to know, LBJ! Our three teams.
You're a good man, JM.
