This is a key move by Brian. Inking his namesake counterpart, keeping the Bruney from free agency, may just be the singular, background moment that assures the NYY a championship ( finally ) in 2008.
First of all, I think Bruney can play first base. Not sure about his hitting or his glove, but he sure knows where first base is.
You can't walk every first batter you face and not know where he winds up standing next.
This counters the Johan move by the Mets....and we are way ahead on the cost per pitch ratio, although I'm not so sure about the cost per strike ratio.
I'm sure , in the off season, Brian Bruney was walking around with a home plate under his arm, just as David Tyree's coach at Montclair high school made him walk around all day carrying a football.
