Letters to the Editor: World at War: Buffalo on fire

Buffalo News (New York)
December 6, 2009 Sunday

Dear Editor,

I see the Minnesota Twins Joe Mauer took the MVP award away from Derek Jeter, just like Justin Morneau did in 2006. It just goes to show how ignorant and jealous the writers and voters are nationwide when it comes to including players from the great Yankees for postseason awards.

Last time I checked, the Yanks swept the Twins and their past and present MVP players, so just how valuable can they be when they can't even get by the Yanks to advance in the playoffs? I know the voting is done before the playoffs, but it's just another opportunity for Yankee haters in the media to join all fans nationwide and stick it to the Yanks.

Jeter will get the last laugh of course. He has only won five World Series, Rookie of the Year, All-Star MVP, a World Series MVP, and has the looks, charisma, charm and class to be perhaps the greatest baseball total package since Mickey Mantle became the hero in 1951. In knowing Jeter's makeup and fine personality, I would be willing to bet that one of Mauer's first few calls would include a congratulatory message from the great Jeter, who will most certainly grace the halls of Cooperstown five years after retiring. Another point is that Jeter is all about the World Team and would rather add to his ring collection than the individual honors anyway, in a fine career which will most likely start the fitting on his next hand in November 2010.

Yeah, and that bum Morneau didn't even get a hit in the series.
