Headed into their best-of-5 semifinals series, the Trenton Thunder knew they would have a tough time against Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Kyle Drabek.
But Yankees prospect Dellin Betances came through with a gem of a pitching performance himself, giving up two hits and a walk while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings in Trenton's 2-0 shutout of New Hampshire on Wednesday.
"It was a great night," said Trenton pitching coach Tommy Phelps. "We made plays when we needed to, and we made pitches when we needed to."
"I know Drabek was pitching well all year," Betances told the Hunterdon County Democrat. "He won Eastern League Pitcher of the Year, so I knew it was going to be a tough one."
