You think Cashman is a disaster--just wait until you behold the first moves of GM Bill O'Reilly.

I hope that you strung-out Yankee addicts realize that this is just an additional step in turning ove the whole franchise to Murdoch. Now, el duque--try reconciling THAT with your self-image as a self-respecting liberal.

It looks like the term "evil empire" has a certain prophetic ring to it after all.

The Yankees have long been, like most sports franchises, a conservative organization.

And a lot of the players have been even worse.

Murdoch is just putting a well-hated face to the tilt that's always been there. Why it had to be so, I don't know. The Steinboys might have needed new yachts.

Murdoch is more than just a "well-hatede" face on an already-conservative brand. He is the Lex Luthor of an unchained crypto-fascist juggernaut. Have fun stirring that into your morning tea every day, Yankee addicts.

At times sports fandom, like patriotism, is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

"The Lex Luthor of an unchained crypto-fascist juggernaut."

Shit. I KNEW there wsa something I left out of my description of Alex Rodriguez in this post.

BernBabyBern--you think that cutting your addiction to the Yankees makes you less of a hopless, mindless, conscienceless junkie, less of a starstruck groupie of one of the vilest corporate entitites in American sports--thanks to the Steinbrenner mafia and its assorted hangers-on--the big-time ones like Randy Levine and the small-time ones like you.

You think you can have it both ways? Strutting around in your Yankees cap but really above your own strutting?

If you really hate the Yankees as much as you really seem to, then you have to show the guts to turn on your heel and exit the abusive relationship, not pretend that your victimhood--and the moral lassitude it evinces--is just the coolest thing ever.

BernBabyBern--first sentence should be be revised as follows (correction in all caps): "cutting your addiction to the Yankees WITH IRONY . . . "
