According to the Internet, the Yankees met with Yoshi Yamamoto Sunday night at an "undisclosed location." Monument Park? Babe Ruth's gravestone? The Dakota? Broadway, to relive Hal's performance in Kinky Boots?
The Empire State Building?
Wherever, whatever... we can only wait. Last year, the Yankees seemed to win the winter, resigning Aaron Judge and adding Carlos Rodon. Then, over the summer, they crapped the bed.
With Yamamoto in the fold, the Yankees would have:
1) Baseball's best top two ace starters.
b) A bullpen that gets regularly rested.

Without Yamamoto, they would:
a) Desperately spend on whatever free agent pitchers remain.
b) Reconsider trading Gleyber Torres and/or Alex Verdugo for pitching.
c) Push their young arms more quickly through the pipeline.
d) Quietly redirect their goal to be a 2024 AL wild card berth.

Trade Verdugo for pitching. Let's face it, we've already accomplished what we wanted to: we got him to shave that awful beard, a temporary but satisfying development when it concerns any former Soxer.
He'd be a mediocre hitter, anyway, so let's trade him for a mediocre pitcher who can plug a rotation slot--maybe the fifth. If we don't get Yam, maybe the third. If Rodon shits the bed again, maybe the second.
The point is, we need pitching. Even moreso now that we traded away a lot of pitchers to get Soto. Who will probably be leaving after one year, while our pitching issues may well extend far beyond. Especially if we don't get Yam.
And that, ladies and gents, is why they call our GM genius The Brain.
Trading Verdugo wouldn’t even be a blip in fandom”s collective radar. Much agreement with JM, above.
